whale392 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 (edited) Ok, I am wanting to know what you all think is the most highly detailed/accurate 1/24th (NOT 1/25th) Ford 260/289/302 kit engine available. I know everyone will have their own opinion, but I want to know. I know which ones AREN'T, but I want to know which ARE. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edited July 13, 2010 by whale392
KENNEDYJR Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 The small block from the Hertz Mustang comes to mind.
ChrisPflug Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Well- since generally detailed engines are an American kit feature and 1/24 scale the realm of Monogram there aren't a whole lot- the Monogram 64.5-66 Mustangs are decent IIRC
Eshaver Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I dunno, the 5.0 litre small block found in Revell's 1932 Ford Sedan has possibilities . At least ya can raid it for a late model automatic transmission . Ed Shaver
george 53 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Ed, that motor is 25th scale, but I hafta agree with Chris and Kennedy Jr. that the engine in Monogram's 64/5 Mustangs are probably the BEST ones to use. Very nicely detailed.
torinobradley Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 If you consider the resin route, Historic Racing Miniatures has a FIA Small Block motor with the correct oil pan and four Webber downdrafts. Might be worth looking into. http://www.stradasportsstore.com/product782.html Good luck!
Chuck Most Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 The Monogram '93 Cobra had a very good 5.0 (302) in 1:24, although it was a late model, fuel injected unit with a five speed manual. I believe the Monogram (and Revell) '55 Ford F-100 and Panel also shared a small block Ford V8 that was reasonably well detailed.
Chuck Most Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I think some issues of the '55 kits also had a pretty cool tri-carb setup. It was still in the Basic Builder issue of the F-100, but I don't recall it being mentioned in the instructions or on the box.
whale392 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 Thanks for the pointers guys! As to the 93 Cobra engine: it is junk and that is why I am asking for a better detailed unit. The 93 is based on the 1979 kit engine, which is COMPLETELY incorrect for the platform it is intended for. Monogram did a junk job on the casting even back then, and time HAS NOT been good to it. The tranny isn't a 5 speed and it isn't even the SROD that came in the 1979-83 cars, and the SROD was a 4 speed. I will check out Strada-Sport (even though I am STILL waiting for him to fill a 3 month old order) or grab one of the early Mustang kits. Thanks again for the insight guys.
