Hey Craig, new, used, etc? Why dont you try a want ad and see whats offered. If your wanting an inexoensive one try Harbor Freight or Northern Tool. Seems like they have some cheap priced airbrushes from $5 an up. Full size gun $20 and up. Gravity feed gun? Maybe $35 and up. Hope this helps you some.

Hi thanks for the fast rely. I'm thinking new. But it needs to include everything I need. Like compressor or canned air?? And would be best online as am in the uk. Thanks ps any links to online shops would be ace. I have seen a few they are called badger? It has the air in a spray type can? Are these any good or just a waste of money. Thanks

Craig, the problem of "Canned air " or propane is the varying pressure problem . See, the propelliant when it comes out freezes the can , thus causing a pressure drop. Me , I have a used airless compressor . They run new about 100.00. I got a badger single action air brush from Michiaels and it's broken down one time . Un less you really need to do Fog paint jobs , T- shirts and the like , a single action brush is going to do a great job. I think a badger from Michiaels is around 80.00. That could be a lot less as Michiaels is always running a 40% coupon in the Sunday paper , well at least here they are . Ed Shaver

Thanks for the reply. I'm still in 2 minds weather to just stick with spray cans. Am just a novice and not sure if I would benifit from a spray kit

I bought an airbrush shortly after I started building models again and it is the single best modeling-related purchase I've ever made.

Stay away from "budget" models and stay away from aircans. Wait until you can afford a good quality airbrush and compressor setup before you buy. It will be worth it in the results you get. You can get perfectly good paint jobs from spray cans if that is what you want to stick with. However, an airbrush allows for all sorts of things you can do with cans: you can mix your own colors, you can economize on paint, you can shoot Alclad II's outstanding paints, and you can detail and highlight in a way that cans simply cannot (bad pun intended).

Best of luck.

Craig ,

Dixieart.com sells Paache H series kits for $63.00 which includes shipping . Everything you need is included except an air compressor and an inline moisture trap . Don't go cheap , it will come back and bite you in the backside !

Craig,

There is an excellent discussion on airbrushes in the Tip, Tricks & Techniques Forum titled "What type of airbrush do you use?"

I would advise you to connect with some of the clubs in your area. Members may let you test their setups. They may know of used systems or components for sale. In my opinion it is better to buy good working used equipment than spend the same amount on "budget" equipment.

I have no idea where any clubs are around where I am. I would buy used if I found one. Thanks again

Do you have access to a model club or hobby store? Maybe they could give you a demonstration on the airbrushes? Just a thought. I recently bought an airbrush myself and dont have a compressor right now. Have been practicing on my old compressor at my old house thats up for sale. Makes a great "guy" conversation during open house! LOL!

I just back into Modeling myself and was anxious to try air brush techniques. I went and bought, some will consider it junk, Air brush Kit at harbor frieght.

For 98.00 I figure if I don't care for air brushing then I really have not lost that much.

If I do like it then I can buy a much better quality set-up.

I have 5 v and vl Paasche , Badger 200, Iawata eclipse and one of those cheap Harbor freight airbushes. I Love them all I have more but don't use the others. The cheap Harbor freight one would be a good starter one. Since you are in the UK you may be able to order Paasche from Dixe art I have found that they are the cheapest on the net. They also carry replacement parts for all their airbrushes. I run mine on a 2 gallon campbell Hausfeld compressor that I bought at Walmart for $70. It has a built in regulator and water trap. The Iawata and the paasche airbrushes are all double action and the badger is a single action. The one i bought from Harbor freight worked real good but the parts may be hard to come by. I did use cans for a couple years but that got expensive . You can also go with CO2 bottles. you have to buy the bottle and a regulator and find someone that can refill them.
