MILD Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 After reading through the search results for close to an hour, getting distracted and not finding what I am after I'm forced to create a new thread. I'm currently trying to address a warped radiator support panel on a Revell 1960 Impala that does not want to come straight. The warp is just severe enough where I'm not entirely convinced that I can bend it back and expect the glue to hold it straight. I have tried using hot water to soften the plastic slightly and then weigh it down against a flat board over night however the warp is still there. Has anyone got any ideas as to how to get around it? Cheers.
Fuel Coupe Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Are you using hot tap water or boiling water. The part has developed a "memory". Try boiling water but be quick as it wont take much. Ive done this with good success..
Railfreak78 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I had to use really hot water and patients to un warp the roof of the yellow car in this picture. It was completely shoved over to the passenger side. I had to heat it and move it. Heat it and move it some more. It did come out good though.
MILD Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Perhaps the water wasn't hot enough- I'll try boiling water and see how I go. Thanks for the replies gentlemen.
charlie8575 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I would suggest a couple of other things. 1. I'd be VERY careful about immersing the plastic in hot water. You could warp it beyond the point of no return. 2. If you have a strainer or some other kind of basket that you can put over the pot, put the part in there and let it sit in there for a minute or two, and gently move the part. Once it's in the desired position, put it on the counter AWAY from the heat, DO NOT touch, and allow it to cool thoroughly (about 20 minutes.) 3. This may take time, and might take a few steps, caution is the watchword. Charlie Larkin
element Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I have the same problem, a warped / bent A pillar on a tamiya skyline kit. What do you think about using steam from a tea pot to help in back into shape? It took a little squishing on its way here from Hong Kong a few years back.
