DocLong Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 OK, it's been a long time since I've built a model car, and even longer since I built a custom. Within the last 4 months or so I've bought about 10-12 kits, but most have been done box stock. This one, not so much.
DocLong Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Welp, all these parts are getting added to the junk bin. Melted the body while trying to bake on some pearl white (was going for a watson style paint job on this one: pearl white top, semi gloss black body.) Only had the oven on 200, and had it on the bottom rack (with the broiler on.) I stood there and watched it, as soon as I saw a reflection in the top it collapsed. Oh well.
LVZ2881 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) 200 is way too hot,and add te broiler and its worse, as you've experienced. I never go above 105 in the dehydrator, which is sitting in a las vegas summer 115 degree garage. but when usuing an oven it should be on bake. Edited July 19, 2010 by LVZ2881
DocLong Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 So...the project is back on. Went to the LHS today to find something to replace the 62' with. Found the older AMT release with the blue car on the box. It was opened so I popped the top to reveal a poorly painted purple metalflake body. So once I figure out how to get rod of this paint, I'll be good to go. No betty crocker on this one though.
Railfreak78 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Sorry to hear the trouble on the first one but glad you were able to replace it. I hate it when a good model goes bad. Good luck
