Chuck Most Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Depends- if it's Testors, the purple pond will usually have it ready to scrub off in a few hours- an overnight soak worst case. If it's an acrylic (like Krylon), the Purple Pond probably won't do much at all. Regular automotive and general-purpose paints will usually require at least an all night soak, in my experience. Kind of sucks you're stripping it- I sort of like those graphics on the hood !
toplessfury Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 ok it has been rescued from the pond and its not too bad. im not too sure about this hood. i may go with a stock one.
Jerred C. Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 If you dont have a stock hood, I think I might have one from the lil red wagon truck that I dont have any more. I built a mud truck clone of my buddies mud truck for him and it does not have a hood, so i have the hood still in the junk yard. If ya need one just let me know. BIG-J
Railfreak78 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Nice! I love the old Dodge trucks and Power Wagons. 73 is actually my favorite year but all of that body style is awesome. I'm watchin!
toplessfury Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 thanks i have the stock hood just need to strip it also.i wish i had an early 80's body those are my favs.
charlie8575 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Interesting project. Did you find that Lake Purple was also useful in helping brake glue bonds, or at least weaken them. I have a couple of kits that I want to restore that will need to be disassembled, and I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get them apart, especially as one is near fifty years old and will probably never be reissued, as the molds were modified. toplessfury Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 im not sure if it softened the glue or not havent tried to take it all apart yet.
1320wayne Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 If you need any extra parts to replace anything broken or missing let me know. I have a few extra parts from a 78 that I am working on. They are: glass dash firewall radiator support and radiator grill front diamond plate bumper for mountable winch

toplessfury Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 alright the scratch building bug has bitten and all of my other projects have been put aside. here i cut the sides out and made some fender extentions still have to trim the wheel openings but looks good to me.
toplessfury Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 ok hard at it for a while now and have to stop on it to let the contour putty dry.here is what ive got so far. i wasnt sure how to do the rear suspention so i took a guess.
Railfreak78 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I was wondering why you didn't need a bed Looks great!
charlie8575 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Nice work on the ramp and frame. Charlie Larkin

toplessfury Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 thatks guys.i think id rather scratch build now than use a full kit .just kidding but im really enjoying it
Terror Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I really don't care for dodge trucks, but thats my problem.I've been waiting for something to happen with this thats why I have waited to comment. You got me now, great save. You have some good scartch skills also, man.have at it.
toplessfury Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 thanks.i have started some painting(chasis and interior). still trying to think up a color combo but it will be 2 tone.
toplessfury Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 ok i got the first color done gotta let it dry and tape it up for the second.i mocked it up so you get an idea of how it looks..
1320wayne Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 i could use that front bumper, and some mirrors if you have them.those are the only thing i dont have. I don't have any mirrors but the front bumper is yours. Send me a PM with your address and I will get it right out to you.
CrewDawg15 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Good Save! It's amazing what an imagination and some styrene can do. I like where your going with it. Also, you could fab up a heavy duty sheetmetal bumper to tie in with the heavy duty theme you have going.
toplessfury Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 thanks guys this has been a fun build so far.
