W-409 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I have been thinking of building a diorama, idea from garage has built many, many times but I had project engine from '66 Nova Pro Street so that was a good start for diorama... AMT has made quite bad cylinder heads to this 350'' engine. First I removed everything unnecessary. Then I glued small pieces of electric wire for bolts. Bolts are thin metal wire. I made valve springs from the same metal wire. I made a new damper from plastic tube, where I drilled a small hole. Floor is painted with Humbroll 56 where I painted Humbroll 53 on it and a bit of sand... Quite good, a few little parts and details, diorama was ready! Here is the original AMT and my version, any better...? And completed model: Let me know, what you think!
Eshaver Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Most impressive work there . I'm going to follow the outcome of this build . Ed Shaver

Ed Shaver Well, that name is not perfect, because this diorama is completed. That name means that engine's work is in progress... Cylinder heads are new ones, new camshaft and so on... But thank you for your comment, Ed.
charlie8575 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Great job. Those heads look fantastic. Charlie Larkin
ChrisPflug Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Crankshaft looks a bit odd with cut off rods and main caps attached however
evilone Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Heres a tip bro. I have been in a engine rebuilding class and would give you some ideas to make this diorama over the top. Make a work bench and holders for the heads, crank, and pistons (usually the crank holder and head holders are simple items made out of wood to keep them off flat surfaces and prevent damage) then place then get a tool box ang make the floor greasy. Hope these ideas help you make this diorama better .
W-409 Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Thank you all. Evilone, that floor is a bit greasy, it doesn't come out from that picture so well... But yes, good ideas maybe I build another some day...
