Steve Keck Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I am doing a two-tone paint job. All House of Kolor, purple pearl something over basecoat white. Would I be better off applying Intercoat clear over the basecoat before masking to shoot the purple? I'm thinking masking over the clear will provide a finer line than over just the basecoat. Thanks!
fatkidd Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 use the intercoat clear before and after masking...meaning, spray your b/c white, let it flash for 10-15 minutes (assuming that you are using HOK b/c), spray your intercoat clear (sg100), let if flash for 20-30 minutes, mask off the areas to paint, laet flash for about 20 minutes, remove masking, spray intercoat clear again. the intercaot clear will help prevent the tape from pulling up your b/c and will help "cover" the tape lines and aid in your final clear being smoother. This is the process that I have gone by for many years and it's worked. hopefully, this helps you out and points you in the right direction
MikeMc Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Gotta go with Pauls advice...can't think of anything he missed......just make sure you pull your tape soon enough, as that will help flatten separation lines
