Guest Johnny Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 but can't seem to find it. I remember seeing where someone converted a 66 GTO to a Lemans. I am trying to replicate the one I owned back in the day! I owned a 66 GTO too but I always loved the 66 Lemans more! Was my first real hotrod! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
george 53 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Jonny the only BODY difference on the two was the Tailight Fascia(the rear panel where the tailights mount). Just file the scoop off tha hood, Re work the rear fascia, an VIOLA! you gotta Le Mans! You'll hear about the trim an crappe like that, but the rear end was the ONLY sheetmetal difference between the two.
charlie8575 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I remember seeing taillights for a LeMans someplace. As I remember, I believe a LeMans promo was made, and something is telling me The Modelhaus makes the replacement taillights. The only other pain would be that stainless beauty panel. If you use a GTO, I'd foil-copy the letters, fill the same with expoxy, grind off the letters and simply scratch a beauty panel, trim the letters and glue to the new part. Keep me posted if you go forward with this. I'd be interested in seeing what happens and I know Mike (Foxer) might be, too. Charlie Larkin
Guest Johnny Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Thanks guys! I was aware of the differences having owned both at one time. I was just hoping someone had done the coversion before (thought I saw it somewhere) to make it easier to do! The hardest thing would be te trim piece across the back panel! Thanks for the links, I'll have to see what they have. I had added a GTO hood and Grirlls to my Lemans back then so that makes it easier unles I want it as it originally was with the flat hood!
