Guest zebm1 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I can't believe that I've stumped tha eclectic Masters of automotive art with this car! Andy Martin correctly surmised that tha car's designer was tha recently demised Peter Brock (from tha spoiler's configuration). Guess I'll have to drop another Heavy Hint, tha body was created by Ghia for ? in 1965. Tha chassis was developed into a limited production sports car, examples of which still exist today. And no, Shelby Racing had nothing to do with this car, and no it is not a Lola prototype. :? and, from what I've managed to dig up, this car is hiding somewhere in Califhornia. Zeb
ismaelg Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 That is PeterBrock's 1965 De Tomaso Sport 5000
Guest zebm1 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Well, I guess tha kat's outa tha bag, although it's kinda hard to believe that a Vette guy knows that much esoteric history on obscure Fords. So I'll show yall what tha late Peter Brock's design eventually became. So now yall know how tha Pantera's lineage began and from whom's imagination it sprang.
MonoPed Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I think the early Pantera without all the spoilers and wings looks the best.
jbwelda Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 i think there is no contest in that...the only question would be what charges were the designer who went from the original to that wedge thing convicted of?
bob paeth Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I'm sorry to hear of the passing of Peter Brock, it was news to me. I occasionaly ran into him while I was with Revell. For a guy with a big reputation he was really down to earth, like the neighbor next door. As I recall we were about the same age which means that he died way too young. Bob
Guest zebm1 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I think he passed in Dec. Bob, last I heard tha aussie's did a day of mourning for him. Zeb
Phirewriter Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Indeed the Aussie racing legend Brock is no longer with us, however the Peter Brock of Cobra fame still walks among us. He was recently injured while covering the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. He is a photojournalist and a frequent contributor to Vintage Motorsport magazine. Mike @ Pastimes Hobby Shop
lordairgtar Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Hey Mike, nice to see you here. You guys ever get to the Milwaukee area, check out Mike's Pastimes Hobby Shop. It's small but nice and they got models, supplies, books for research. Also slot car stuff.
bob paeth Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I am sorry to hear of the loss to the people of OZ but, also glad that the Peter Brock that I know is still with us. thanks for clearing up my confusion. bob
Phirewriter Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Hi Greg, Thanks for the plug! We carry Model Cars and are listed in the dealers section. FYI Tamiya made a 1/24-scale slot car based on this car. The rear wheels where originally partially covered by the rear bodywork earlier in the cars life, this is the version Tamiya copied. Needless to say this is an ultra rare slot car!
bigphoto Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 There are two Peter Brocks? Twins? Zeb Yes Zeb, there are two, not related as far as I know. There was Pete Brock who worked for "Ole Shel" and designed the Cobra Daytona cpe. and Peter Brock a world reknown racer from downunder. Ironically whose untimely death came while driving Superformance Cobra Daytona replica. And on another note here is a pic of some Panteras and a Mangusta!!
Guest zebm1 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Ahhhh OK then, tha P. Brock, thet worked for "Old Shel" was tha designer of tha De Tomaso 5000 GT, and not tha P. Brock from Oz. Thanx for clearing that up Tim. Zeb
