Swifster Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Well, my MAD pre-wired distributors showed up yesterday. I have to admit I was a little dismayed upon finding out the distributor base was resin and not billet aluminum. And the distributor sits about a scale foot taller than the engine! For $5 each, I expected a far better product... Ah, who am I kidding? These are great looking distributors and I'm sure glad I don't have to wire the darn things And yes, I did trim it to fit, and it looks great on the engine. I do have a question. Prepping to paint the base, am I good to go with just a shot of primer before painting with some aluminum colored paint. It's my first time with resin. Thanks!
MikeMc Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) You had me worried!!!!! (But use a DM base and a MAD top for that look) Use a quick shot of alum or stainless metalizer..no primer needed........great product!! Edited August 9, 2010 by MikeMc
Kris Morgan Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Boy Tom, Ya had me worried there for a moment(LOL). Thought I was reading the first complaint I have ever had on the distributors for a breif second. As Mike said, no primer is needed. If it does make ya feel better to use primer though, I would go with something thin. Good ole Tamiya white primer would be my first choice. Please also note that we do not use any messy release agents. making prep even easier. Just a quick scrub with dish soap and, warm water is all that is needed. Please avoid using too hot of water as hot water could cause the base to warp a bit.
Swifster Posted August 11, 2010 Author Posted August 11, 2010 Kris, sorry to scare you... . I hit it the base with some Tamiya gray primer and then flat aluminum (didn't do the VW distributor yet). It looks great. And on a Ford FE engine, it gets center stage . These are a great product and they save a tremendous amount of wiring time. Thanks for making these!
Kris Morgan Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Thank you Tom. No trouble at all on the "almost scarin me". A little humor goes a long way. Glad you like the product and, thank for the support.

Swifster Posted August 12, 2010 Author Posted August 12, 2010 Being new to this stuff, these are a truely great item. I know back in the 70's, it was thread thru wax and that type of stuff. Maybe I just need an assortment pack in various colors...LOL!
