Lyle Willits Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) I've been thinking about building a model of my first car,,,,,,,,,,for 45 years. So I've decided to start. ( I don't like to rush into things.) In 1965 I bought a '61 Ford Galaxy for $400. I no longer had to drive my mother's PINK & WHITE '60 Dodge Phoenix. Only picture I have of my '61 Ford: I'm using the AMT '61 body and chrome with most of the AMT '60 Ford parts. I cut the hood from the body. Drilled out the "promo" heradlights and glued in reflectors from an old Chevelle grille. Still have to touch up the chrome on the reflectors and add the lenses. The 292 Y-Block will come from the AMT '57 Ford. Interior side/door panels will have to be scratchbuilt as they were incorrect in the '61 kit. Wheels are from the '60 Ford mounted in tires from the AMT '62 Pontiac with painted white walls. Edited August 15, 2010 by Lyle Willits
Danno Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Lyle, Very neat! I really like "first car" projects. And, it's great to see you here, posting a build/WIP. Looking forward to watching the progress.

Harry P. Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 A four year old car for only $400! That was a great deal!
Lyle Willits Posted August 15, 2010 Author Posted August 15, 2010 A four year old car for only $400! That was a great deal! Yep. And gas to make it run cost 0.25 a gallon!
impcon Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 (edited) This one will be interesting to watch. I'd really appreciate some detailed photos and explanations as towhat you are going to do regarding the door panels. I have a project in mind but the door panels that come with the kit that I want to do the conversion on are wrong and will need to be redone. Being as this was your first car, you'll likely be putting your heart into this build more so than most, I would assume. Edited August 15, 2010 by impcon
