Steve, I do not know what its suppost to look like as shading, You have to remember i'm very color blined on shading of cars, That is why when I did the 61 Chevy that was at the GSL my daughter had to tell me if every thing was shaded the same as I have not idea of it. Now for what the chip looks like to what they gave me could be 2 different things like you said.. But my uncle shows from the pics he has of it and the brochure.. It looks the same to me..

I also do know they had trouble with the blue code number for the mixing machine.. The 4808 also is giving by PPG for a Toyota blue.. Now not saying that is not what they gave us instead of the right blue, But it sounds more like it when talking to older people (not saying your old) but was around some what at that time frame on the colors.

Nice work . Excellent conversion . Just right . About the color . I always use <tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary> . It shows color chips .

I wish to share this information . For those not knowing how and about Paint mixing . The "Metallic" is actully little flakes of Aluminum Flakes . These flakes end up in a mixed random positions in the dried paint . Some are flat , at angles to the surface , and on their sides . This is what the "Shimmering" in the dried finish is all about . When you buy 1:1 Auto Touch up , you get full sized flakes . When you buy colors mixed for Models , the flakes are much smaller . MCW is an example of this . As far as the immediate Post War metallics , the 'flakes' went obsolete in the '50' as the new Aluminum Flakes were superior . I used paint mixing charts from the '60's and '50's . The '50's book stated "paints mixed from these formulas will not match original finishes . Complete refinsh is required .

I have found over time the finishes I have looking too shiney have toned down over time . BTW , any metallic will not exactly match for touch up or spot repairs .This is why painters in Body Shops are an asset to the shop . The exact finish could only be met if the tempeture , humidy , paint mix , and consisty is exact . Painters have learned to compesate for this . Oops , I forgot , the Paint gun has to be the same along with the setting of the gun .

I hope this helps . I hope also I didn't overexplain . Thanx .. :unsure
