Hello,

I am not leaving the hobby but I really want to purge most of my kits. I have gone the ebay route before but it has become such an ordeal with the feedback changes and the way they get you with almost as many fees as the airlines do. Any way, Can anyone recommend a collection-buyer who has a good reputation? My stash is not terribly special but just taking up too much room. (I am getting tired of paying for storage for stuff I will never get to)

Thanks for any advice

Well All I can say is Good Luck.

Most Model collection buyers will give ya about $3 each.

I'd love to sell off most of my stash but I couldn't live with out most of them and i don't

know which ones I could live with out so I'm playing it safe. B)

I'm pretty disappointed no one ever mentions emodelcars.com

It's similar to ebay but without the fees! List items for free, sell items and still free! You are also able to accept most any type of payment you prefer.

The only things that cost money are premium items like bold, highlight, featured.

I strongly encourage you to check it out. Craigs list has scammers to deal with, and selling an entire collection to one guy will net you a small sum.

Yes, e-selling means packing and shipping too, but at least you can ask what you want out of the kits.

Again, just my suggestion.

Not to mention after you sell on eBay, an if your going through PayPal for reciving then PayPal will grab your money and hold it on you for 21 days! That is unless you can provide DC# and put it into the system and then wait to the buyer gets the items and OR leaves you feedback, then you have to call in to get your money release from the 21 Day Hold at PayPal.. if they release (after item has been confirm delivered) it that is after you have called in. Then I heard it takes them a 3 day more just to release it. If eBay doesn't get you then the other will! LOL. I hope you the best of luck man on unloading your kits. :(

I have also thought about selling some of my kits, but the ones I buy are for a reason. Most of the kits I have are OOP and rare.

After you sell them you start kicking your self! It starts the minute you find yourself buying them again at a now over inflated price! Ask how I know this!!! Better yet, don't! I hate crying!

I agree 100% You'll be sorry the moment the kit goes in the mail B)

Keep your stuff, Seller Beware!

I once made the mistake of trusting someone to make a fair trade for some Pocher cars I owned---Yes I know! Save your derisive comments!

What I recieved in trade was nowhere near the dollar value of what I so lovingly built. Embarrasingly Nowhere near the value!

Hosed by a supposed "Good Guy" of the hobby I have loved since 1965. Even after more than a few polite reminders, He took months to get around to sending me stuff a little at a time. Lousily packed with no regard for damage. Even so I never got more than 1/2 of what we agreed to.

After I gave up on our agreement, He never understood why I did not keep in contact.

The Modelers Sucker Society-has denied me membership because I pegged the "Stooopid Meter"

I had put a few car there but no action at all , I would maybe try again. emodelcars don't like Firefox but IE works fine , the site needs to be updated and promoted. It wouldn't hurt if member use it in their sig. on other sites or added it to their list of links on fotki or any public site.

I've sold some kits and later ended up looking to buy the same ones again.

I try and just keep models I like, might like, gonna build, might build, Parts, Don't know if

I like it or not but dont want to take a chance at not finding it if I want to might build

it.

To insure I might like something, I'll pick up more than one.

maybe sell or trade one off but always keeping one just for me for later-ish.

Yes, Truly a vicious cycle.

yes, I'm a Plastaholic

I'm thinking of building another shed :D

Paypal only holds money for new users once you reach X amount of feedback that stops.. IMO its a great system to protect people. I have never once had my money heald up by paypal or ebay unless it was for a chargeback..

I do know some people who buy collections. Can you tell me how many kits are we talking about?

About 100. I need to do a little more triage and see what is started, missing parts, etc.

I have to give my 2 cents because Im from the camp of regret. there your kits and its up to you what to do with them, but I have had about 350 kits now about 100 and regret everyone sold. Now i used the money on some of them for more supplies, paint, tape,. etc, but the one i regret the most was a rsr turbo 1/6th scale porcshe from entex, sold it to help pay some family bills but will never be able to find that rare kit again. I bought if for $150.00 and got a great deal more for it but they once in a while show up for aroudn $1200.00 now if you can find a good clean copy, sold some 1/12 porshces, etc,.. Now everytime i think of them that tinge of regret rolls in. Just don't want you to feel that regret later!!

Also about emodelcars.com. i'm not sure why its not more popular, i mean come on its FREE!!!. I am listing some on there and will promote it more, because no matter how slow it is you have to remember that its free. Thank you Gregg for keeping it free, i truly appreciate your efforts to help out the fellow modeler, with out you we wouldn't have model cars mag or the free auction site!!!

I found enough room in my model shoppe and garage for everything. I am now an expert in putting shelves on the walls. I realized as many of you guys said I would probably regret selling out. Every once in a while I do regret selling something years later.

I am only 35 so I might be able to build everything in my lifetime....

actually, the Paypal payment holds are not based on a seller's feedback amount. They base the holds on the amount and rating of an ebay seller's DSRs, or "Detailed Seller Ratings". These are left at the same time as feedback, and it's a 5 star system rating the quality of the seller's service during a transaction. It takes 10 DSR's before they show up on an ebay seller's feedback profile, at the top of the page. Since buyers do not always leave feedback (even for a perfect transaction), they rarely take the few extra seconds to fill out the DSR questions when leaving feedback. Lastly, Paypal seller payment holds are finally removed once a seller has earned 20 DSR's. I have had numerous talks with ebay customer service supervisors regarding this, since I currently have the 21 day hold and it is very, very irritating. What they should do, is apply the holds to sellers with say, less than 100 positive feedbacks. After that, if they receive a negative feedback, continue the hold for 90 days. If there are no negatives left during then, they should remove it. I have had about 45-50 transactions on ebay, never had any complaints, and only 17 people who I've had transactions with have had the decency to sit down for 10 seconds to leave me a positive feedback (I have 100% positive, 0 Negative and 0 Neutral... and these stupid holds are still in place so it is not based on feedback). But, since I can't see my DSRs, I don't know if 1 or 9 of them have left a DSR. Maybe none have, but I won't be able to see those until I get 10 of them. It sucks, believe me lol.

Anyway, if you're going to sell something on ebay, think about the pros & cons first. You get charged 3 times for each and every item you sell. There are the listing fees, (plus extra if you have special features, a buy it now, a reserve, or more pictures, etc), then after it sells, you have a final value fee. Finally, after your payment is received through PayPal, they take their percentage out. Seriously, 3 times for the same item!

Everyone needs to start selling model cars on emodelcars so that the vicious cycle will end! B)
