DRG Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Well I can't afford to go out and buy a Paint Booth right now, but I needed something. 1 Cardboard Box. 2 Furnace Filters 1 Double Window Fan sitting in window across the room ( only runs when I am DONE painting) ( Hmm, that may not be a good idea, start it before painting) I now have a Hillbilly Paint Booth. No offence intended by my description. Don't laugh it works.
Bill Eh? Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 I remember reading in a different post of yours, the fact that you were well equipped except for a paint booth. This appears to be an example of " necessity is the mother of invention". Well done! Now that you have created this, and I hope you feel proud of your success, I'm sure you will find the inspiration to start a build. Good luck at the bench.
sjordan2 Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 (edited) I hope that other, more knowledgeable people than I will jump in quickly with some specific suggestions, but there have been many posts on this subject and the number one recommendation seems to be the safety of the fan you use, which would be of a type that would not allow paint mist and vapors to move across the fan's motor and brushes, such as a squirrel cage fan. Just search the forum for Paint Booth and you'll probably find what I'm alluding to. From what I read, this is critical to prevent fires and injury, etc., and even though I know little about the subject, I thought it was urgent to bring it up, since no one has responded yet with any informed knowledge. sjordan2 Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 ADDITION: This site's search engine is useless. Try the other guys' site: http://cs.scaleautomag.com/scacs/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=paint+booth&o=Relevance The net net is that knowledgeable people such as Jim Haught urge you NOT to skimp on a paint booth. Pace paint booths come highly recommended: http://www.pacepaintbooths.com/pace/
DRG Posted September 19, 2010 Author Posted September 19, 2010 The fumes get a little much, problem this winter, but the fan is across the room strictly venting the fumes out. The motors are brushless and sealed. Thanks for the warning though.
