Jantrix Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 (edited) No that isn't a euphamism for something dirty. I just got some straight pins for a shifter and want to make it an 8 ball knob. I can do the white circle, but how to do the 8 so small escapes me. Any tricks to it? Thanks. Edited September 21, 2010 by Jantrix
Agent G Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Paint the white circle, then paint two small black circles within that. Go back and put two white dots within the black circles, voila' an "8 ball" G
Sully Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 (edited) If you want an 8 ball just paint your shifter ball black first. When dry, paint two white dots, one on top of the other with the bottom one being slightly larger. When this is dry just add two black dots in the center of the white ones. With some practice it turns out pretty good. Sully Edited September 19, 2010 by Sully
DanielG Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 If you are EXTREMELY masochistic you can try using a photo-etch #8. Either way, I would like to see how you make out.
Jantrix Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 Man this was much easier than I thought. After a lot of great advice. I dipped the black ball into a thin smear of flat white paint = near perfect circle. And a set of old decals gave me the 8. On older decals the decal number (put decal #5 here, etc) are themselves decals. On the newer ones not so, but I still have plenty of old ones. A dip in Future afterward gave me the shine. Very easy. Thanks to everyone for their help.
Chuck Most Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 And just for future reference, I believe the reissued Monogram (Revell box) '32 Ford Roadster kit has an 8-ball decal for the shift knob, for those who aren't as good at painting small numbers!
DanielG Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I think the eight is too small! OUCH! just kidding!
Terror Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I use decal 8's.Most of them have an 8 in the serial or date #.I used a decal on my 32 Ford wip here that very few saw or commented on.
