phoneguy Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 What started out as a single truck--the GMC Crackerbox has now grown into a small fleet. I ordered the paint from Scale Finishes, which is the correct color for Yellow, and had PLENTY left over. (I ordered 3 bottles, since I wasn't too sure about my airbrushing skills) And naturally, my air compressor gave out before I could finish putting a good coat on.
disabled modeler Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Thats a good start of a fleet thats for sure, I like the old cracker box GMC...very cool! Love the old trucks.
Mr mopar Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Go Jerry go............ thats going to be a big job!
impcon Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 (edited) They look so neat all lined up like a bunch of little road warriors! WHat model is the GMC/Chevrolet beside the Cracjerbox> It doesn't look like any truck model that I recall seeing. My dad had a GMC straight job with a van body that was that cab style. It had a "Toto Flow" diesel engine.. seeing that little truck brings back some memories.. Actually - just looked at the photo again and recognixed it as a General. My dad's had a short nose.. I'll have to see if I can find any photos of a truck like his.. found one - except my dad's was a long wheel base and navy blue in colour..I wonder if there is a resin cab like this available??? American Industrial Truck Models has that short hood GMC 9500 trans kit your looking for. He also has the long hood version of it as well. If you look again, the truck sitting to the left of the Cracker Box is the AITM GMC 9500 short hood that I mentioned. The truck on the very end of the row is a GMC General. phoneguy Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Ben is correct. The truck is the GMC 9500 short hood from AITM. Dave has both the long and short hoods, which I also have the long hood as well. Just haven't done anything with it yet. The Crackerbox is available from Spaulding and sometimes they pop up on ebay.
phoneguy Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Here's what I've got done so far. It's sitting on a "used" General frame, shortened, Astro tanks and battery box.
Paul B Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 That will be an impressive line up when you get it all built up!
daniel gailloux Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Here's what I've got done so far. It's sitting on a "used" General frame, shortened, Astro tanks and battery box. Looks like you have an assembly line of Yellow freight trucks going. I will keep looking as the fleet increases. Daniel Gailloux
phoneguy Posted September 28, 2010 Author Posted September 28, 2010 I may add more to the fleet later, but right now I've got my hands full just to finish these 4. Any suggestions for other trucks to use?

The Road Boss--hmmm.........time will tell how big this fleet gets. And can't forget about trailers!!!! The more I think about it, the less room I have one the shelf. Guys--you gotta quit adding these to me.

I don't have any YET, plus I still need to finish these. Should be before the end of the year. I will have to do a KW daycab tho, I've done 2 years back. Wish I still had them. I think I've already got plans for another 4 trucks when I get done with these, making the fleet a total of 8 and all will have different trailers. The only reason the fleet is growing to that size is because when I ordered the paint from Jameston at Scale Finishes, I was unsure of my airbrush skills, so I ordered 3--2 oz bottles. It went on very smooth without any goof-ups. You should check out the colors he has available.
