Hey guys I was hoping someone out there could maybe fill me in on a few things. I am currently waiting on my AMT Diamond Reo kit and I've been doing some pregame planning alittle bit. I want to build it to look like one of my dads truck he drove in the 80's and his was a giant with a set back front axle. Now I noticed that the fenders are seperate from the hood in the kit, meaning you glue the fenders on, would it be possible to make a set back front axle with that hood? or would it be easier to just buy the set back axle hood from Sourkrauts for 20 bucks? I mean if i did that then i would have an extra hood for another project down the road..

That depends a lot on your modellling skills. For sure for $ 20.00 you get the conversion kit and presto you have your truck.

If you can work the kit into the Giant you will get the satisfaction that you have done a real cool conversion.

Having the fenders molded separately helps a lot for the conversion of your truck.

Even if you get the resin conversion you will still need to modify the front suspension on the truck kit.

Hope this helps Daniel Gailloux

It should not be too difficult to move the fenders back, cut the rear of them off to mount on the cab cowl,a little fill and sand ,presto a set back hood.I make it sound soooo easy.I'd get an autocar and use that setback chassis. You could then use the leftover DR chassis and autocar hood/fenders to build a forward axle autocar

Hey thanks for all the input guys! I appreciate it. So I bought the conversion kit from Sourkrauts primarily for the fact that if my conversion wouldnt work I have a back up.. if nothing else I have an extra hood for the parts box. Besides i ordered the longer frame rails and a few other things as well haha i found sooo much stuff on there I just started adding things to the cart.. like a bug shield, a CB Radio, I ordered (2) Swan Hood Ornaments and that hood. Theres just so much on that website I had to watch myself, The only thing I didnt order and I would like to is the 10 hole Mo'Luminum Resin Cast wheels. I should have got them this time but I will have to wait for now. Anyways once I get started on this bad boy Ill keep ya posted with pics.

Thats similar to what I am looking at building except mine has a sleeper. Thats a cool picture though. Another Question.. Does anyone out there know where I could find an AirShield for the top of the truck? Im looking for one like was in the White Road Boss (Branch Trucking)Kit. Heres a link so you can see what I mean.

Its just a flat airshield. I think the put it in the kit for one of the R Model Macks too. If need be Ill attempt to scratchbuild but if anyone knows of someplace that sells them or has one, im interested. Thanks!

I scanned it from an early 1990s ATHS "Wheels of Time" magazine's for sale section. I think the actual truck was green.

If you look at that particular model it is actually a Diamond Reo Raider before the Raider was offered.

Soo the hood came yesterday as well as the swan hood ornaments and cb antennas and the rest of the care package.. and it dawned on me I still have not recieved my model. Its been two weeks and he hasnt even returned an email to me. Starting to get concerned. Anyways on a lighter note I found styrene sheets at the local ben franklin store and they had 2'x4' .040 mm sheets on sale for 5 bucks a sheet. needless to say i scarfed some up and im considering building a 42 and a half foot Utility brand reefer trailer with it. Im not sure yet.. i know i wouldnt mind building a big ol' bunk for on a KW. haha
