59 Impala Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) Ok here goes. As some of you know the Buckeye Scale Auto Club has a same build night in December. Well, this year it is the 62 Buick and my first time doing this. Well, we can build them anyway we want and here is what I'm doing to mine. Now, I originally had the rear end sagging but I've changed my mind and this is how she looks now. This is to represent what a kid would do to his daddy's Buick when dad wasn't looking. I mixed Saphire Blue with some Black and came up with this color. Now Jr. had a little accident at the track and had to go to the local junk yard and purchase some parts to fix the car and here is what he got fer his money. I need to buff out the quarter panel just a tad from the over spray. Thanks fer lookin. Dan I fergot one thing. The wheels that come in the kit are all 4 rear wheels. So, what I did was make the front wheel bearing caps and installed them on the wheels. Now they are front wheels. I also mixed the paint for the wheels. It's what I call my take on gun metal gray. whale392 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Definately looks different from last I saw it. Looking good Dan; so we have at least 4 Buicks for December now!
charlie8575 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Oops...minor accident. I like it, Dan. Charlie Larkin
59 Impala Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) Thanks guys and Brad, I hope I can get-er-done by December. There's a lot of work to do yet, esp. the BMF and I don't look forward to doing that on this monster. Dan Edited October 14, 2010 by 59 Chevy Impala
Scalper Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Looks pretty cool. like the wheels. Man he needs to get the rest of the car painter. Better get Mayco.
59 Impala Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 Thanks Andre. Yeah he needs Mayco or Earl Schibe. Dan
59 Impala Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 Hi guys, I'm in the process of installing the BMF on her now. I'll have some pics up as soon as I can. Dan
whale392 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 And here I am still playing with the bodywork on mine! Look forward to seeing it with the foil and seeing it in December Dan.
59 Impala Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Thanks Brad. Here are some pics of the right side with the foil on it. I don't have any BMF on the left side yet. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
59 Impala Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Mike, it's close but not the exact same. I mixed up a small batch to paint this and it came out real close. This is a tad bit bluer or darker than the 53 Ford. If I would have added a touch more yellow I could have matched the green for the Ford. Dan
59 Impala Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Thanks Dave and this is a fun build for me. The guys in the Buckeye Scale Auto Club are a bunch of good guys and I'm glad to know them. This is the first time for me to build a same kit for any club and I'm having fun and that's what it's all about, having fun. Dan
59 Impala Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Well Mark, all I can say is the kid had a warm behind fer awhile. After the initial behind wooopin 'ol dad kinda liked what his son did to the performance of the car and started bragging about how smart his kid was to get his (dads) Buick to go faster. 'Ol dad started a savings account for his son that 'ol sonny didn't know about so he could buy his own hot rod later. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Dan
whale392 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Almost there Dan. I haven't really touched mine since the meeting as I have been BUSY with work. I did get the front wheel sleeves back to the machinist to get the .040" taken out that was missed the first time. It looks like I will be building mine in my style all right......unfinished! You bringing it to the next meeting?
59 Impala Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 Yes Brad I'm bringing it and it might be close to being finished. I got the BMF finished tonight and man was it a pain on the left side. The lines on the front fender aren't very prominent and I had a rough time trimming it and I had to redo the left rear quarter panel because of the faint lines. But, I got er done and my eyes almost crossed. Later, Dan
59 Impala Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) Well, I got her done. Here are some pics of her in her finest. I used two coats of Testors clear parts glue to try and make them look like they have a lens in them instead of chrome. What do you guys think? I also did this to the back up lights. A little weathering for the chassis. Thanks fer lookin. Dan Edited October 26, 2010 by 59 Chevy Impala
whale392 Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Looks good all finished up. Now you will make the rest of us look bad (but we need that to keep going!) when you bring it in. Thanks for sharing it with us Dan, and I hope to be at the November meeting to see it in person.
59 Impala Posted October 27, 2010 Author Posted October 27, 2010 Thanks Brad, and it will be at the meeting if I have anything to say about it. If I'm there, it'll be there. I can't wait to see the others. One thing is I forgot to paint the bottom of the interior, so now I have to take it back apart and paint that. DOH! You can see part of it on top of the transmition and rear wheels. Oh well, back to the drawing board as they used to say. I hope to see ya at the meeting. Dan
noname Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I like this car alot. I was going to do one of these as an old Super Stocker but traded it. So I dig this.
DRG Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 If it wasn't for the fact that Cleveland is a long ride from the Columbus area I would see about joining this modeling club. I have seen some really nice builds and some equally nice members. Oh well, I'm stuck in Cleveland.
59 Impala Posted October 27, 2010 Author Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) Nice Dan! I'll refrain from picking it up & busting the parts off that you don't secure properly! Thanks Mike, I needed that. That's the way I build though. Just in case I want to take somethin apart to either rebuild or to try somethin else. I want it to come apart easily. I've always been that way. And Donald, I wish sometimes it wasn't as far as it is either. My family all live in the Akron area and it's just to far away. Dan Edited October 27, 2010 by 59 Chevy Impala
DRG Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 A quick question; could a person just stop in to visit if they were in the area on a meeting night??
59 Impala Posted October 27, 2010 Author Posted October 27, 2010 YEs sir, you're more than welcome to visit. I'm sure the guys would love to meet you. They're a bunch of really nice guys. Oh yeah, and a girl/woman. Sorry bout that Brad. Brads fiance comes to the meetings also. Hope to see ya one of these days Donald. Dan
whale392 Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Last time I was at the Vet they gave me a clean bill of health! Besides, I really don't bite much anymore. I drive from Dayton to the meetings, and if Keriann (aforementioned fiancee) is not at work/in class (she goes by ClassicPlastic here) she will be there with me. Anyone is welcome....first Thursday of the month.
