Juneau125 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) Here's a chopped down DM800 I tried to make a DM600 out of. Turned out OK. Lately I've been buying cheap glue-bombs on ebay and practicing different things, like this. Missing a few parts and pieces, but AITM will hook me up cheap -handles, door latches, air cleaner, etc. All ebay salvage here, I guess I'm in the whole thing about 5 hours, $30, and some paint. Bumper is Paystar 5000, muffler is KW. Still lots of details to add. Mudflaps will make a big difference. Next DM600 will go much better- I learned alot on this one. Not too bad for an old backwoods dumper. Juneau125 Posted October 31, 2010 Author Posted October 31, 2010 Not sure why but I put 3 pics up and only 1 posted. Any ideas? I'm not the brightest bulb in the box.... I should also mention the resin 2-hole buds came from Ryan Silva's ebay store- 'Silvas Resin Specialties' - he does a fantastic job with these 1/25 truck wheels. I'll keep buyin' em as long as he's selling!
mackinac359 Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Good save! Glue-bombs and former built-ups are great for experimenting. Tim
Juneau125 Posted October 31, 2010 Author Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Sorry fellows, trying to get the pic thing down...... Edited October 31, 2010 by Juneau125
mountaindewd Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Nice lookin' Mack! If you look at the pic links, you'll notice that this [ bracket is missing at the beginning of them. Probably missed it when copying. Select "EDIT" in the lower right of that specific post and just add that bracket at the beginning of the links and all should be well. highway Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) By Glue Bomb are you guys referring to something that has already been slightly put together and you just take it apart and restart? You are mostly right, Justin. My definition of a "glue bomb" may differ some from others here (so feel free to jump in guys if I'm wrong!), but I usually consider them completely built kits that are usually glued together with more glue than needed. A few other examples could also be a built kit that is not heavily glued together, but is now in a state of disrepair with parts falling off or has even completely fallen apart. Either way, it usually has started as a fully built kit at one time that was taken or fallen apart and rebuilt. By the way, beautiful job, Eric. Edited October 31, 2010 by highway
highway Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 That sounds interesting. How do you cut them up without breaking parts? Do you have to be extremely careful? I've never actually tried to rebuild a glue bomb yet, but one technique I've heard works is to run the model under water and then put it in the freezer. The idea is the water will get into the glue joint and then expand as it freezes, hopefully pulling the glue joint apart with little or no damage to the parts.
superdog Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Nice job man, great save on a great subject.........I love it!!!! Todd
