W-409 Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 Thank you, Janne! That thing is true, that the newspaper is not good, I think, I'll make a mockup number three in a smooth table. I think, I may have time for this build also, later today. Let's see if there comes an update or not.
Randy D Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Hello Niko, Really like your build!! I think you have got the stance right Keep up the good work, Randy
W-409 Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 Thanx, Randy ! I like the stance too... Today I continued working with the engine. I found oil pan which fits well to that engine. It was chromed, but I painted it silver because chrome was looking bad. I painted cylinder heads too, and installed valve covers. But sometimes finding correct parts is anything but easy. Today, I was looking for timing chain cover and intake manifold. After TWO AND HALF HOURS of searching correct ones, I found them. The manifold looks like Torker II manifold. That was very popular "High Performance" manifold in the 80's... Also I tried test fitting this car on smooth table, and it looked good. I think, this will continue pretty soon...
W-409 Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 Some more work on this. I painted the chassis. It's white, as they used to be in late seventies or early eighties... I painted the chassis twice, because the red plastic didn't look like white after the first coat. When it was white, I painted spare tire casing by red and blue. Stars & Stripes, you know... Don't that blue area needs still some white stars, I have them in progress and I must print them out as decals... I also continued the engine work. I drilled holes to distributor and cylinder heads. I installed ignition wires to engine. They are looking pretty good, but not the best of mine. Headers are from Monogram '56 Chevy kit. They needed some heat before they did fit, I don't know, they may need some more heat again... I must continue the work soon... The aircleaner is just test fitted! Here is my "photo studio"... It's just one poster what has a white background. It's on the table and there is one light on the wall.
W-409 Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 I got some more work done this morning. I installed the fuel pump and fuel line from carburetor to that pump. I built glass bowl fuel filter from piece of clear parts tree. I must paint the top of it by silver, and it will look like aluminium cover. Fuel line is made from MIG welding wire... I also added the throttle return spring. Aircleaner is not glued yet. I also put the belt and the pulleys to that engine and of course the alternator too. Now back with it, making more details and other stuff. I must go to get some of my models back from Model Car Contest later today...
John Teresi Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Niko.........coming along great........alot of nice work.
W-409 Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 Thanx John! I think, this one will be waiting for few days, but not too long, otherwise this is not ready when the deadline is... This will continue soon, but not tomorrow. Just got '67 Charger and that will be Street/Race car, I think, I get to that one right now...
W-409 Posted May 27, 2011 Author Posted May 27, 2011 After a short break from this one, I'm back building this model. Not much done, but I started painting the rear axle. I painted now some red on it, next step is to paint some blue and white there, then I can add few brackets to the chassis plate and then I'm ready to glue that axle on its place. And oh yes, I must make the propeller shaft longer, but I will use that part, which is now molded to rear axle, as a basis.
W-409 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 Getting back to this one! Today I sprayed some primer to body. It's the first primer coat, and now there's coming some sanding, putty etc. Also I've painted the rear axle now, and must make the propeller shaft longer... Also needs to do some engine detailing...
W-409 Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 Some more bondo to the body. There were many spots which were in need of bondo. Now some sanding, and maybe more bondo, untill it looks good. Then some paint and clear on it. Hood isn't still primered, I must add one set of bondo to it, before primering, because I can see lots of mistakes in that!
W-409 Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 It has been long time since the last update. Now I modified those door panels to match opening doors. Now they fit fine, and doors should open and close nicely. Next needs to paint and put some flocking to interior floor, and I need to find Corvette seats and dashboard somewhere...
W-409 Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 Finally an update. Pretty much done since last update... I got the front axle system painted. First I painted it red. It needed two coats of paint before it was completely red. Then I painted some blue there, and some bolts are painted white. Same thing in the rear, but I had to make propeller shaft longer, before painting any details. I have no joints between the propeller shaft and transmission, but that connection can't be seen so well, that it doesn't matter. Also painted inner wheels red, and other side is black. I assembled the wheels and tires. Axles are glued on their places, next I'm going to install tires. Those axles fit fine, I must do some little things to the chassis also. Body is sanded smooth, I'm going to spray new primer coat later today, then I can see if it needs still more bondo and sanding. I'm going to go with these seats, I'll paint them brown...
W-409 Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 I glued the wheels and tires on their places. They did fit nicely and stance looks pretty good, I think. Maybe that front end could be little lower, but that's good enough for me. The hood isn't still ready for primering, it needs some more bondo, tomorrow I'm going to work with it. Maybe after that I can paint some primer to it too... But body is also primered, but it needs still some work, but it's gettin' better and better. Thanks for looking, comments welcome.
MachinistMark Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 looks great...what kit did those weiand valve covers come from???!
W-409 Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 Thanks, Tony and Mark! Those Weiand valve covers can be found from AMT '66 Nova Pro Street. I'm not sure about the round 2 release, but I hve the old one, which comes with those. But I think, some other old AMT kit has them too, I just don't know, what kit actually.
W-409 Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 I installed the starter. Drilled also hole for battery cable and glued it on its place. Seats and door panels are painted brown, I'll paint some details next. Those door panels need bit of styrene also, and I don't have the window cranks for them, so maybe I must build them scratch too. Let's see...
W-409 Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 Little more bodywork. I really hope, this is the last time when I put some putty to this Corvette body... I must sand it smooth today and then bit of primer, I think it'll look good after that. I'm not going to paint two tone paintjob, just keeping this one simply, if I mess that two tone, all of the bodywork gets damaged in the paint stripping.
W-409 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 Ok, the last set of primer has been painted. The bodywork is not perfect, but I think, it'll look good when I have paint, clear, decals and BMF. Bit polishing too. The hood isn't still ready, but I'm working on it. Windshield from Revell's '67 Corvette, it fits ok. And rear window will be made from acetate. I'm going to paint it tomorrow, hopefully. No pics this time, but maybe tomorrow.
W-409 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Here on the first picture you can see how the windshield fits. Not perfect, but I think, it's good enough. I also build "brackets" for the rear window, hopefully I can make it. Body is also painted, color is from Motip. The bodywork isn't perfect but I think it looks good after paint, and then I'm going to clear and wax it. I'm going to search some decals for it. Hope I find something...
W-409 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 More... It's pretty smooth, but not so shiny. I will spray some clear on it and then waxing, then it will be good, I hope.
W-409 Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 I installed stripes on the top. I don't know, where are they from, but on the same decal sheet, there are some Rebel flags, and these stripes with stars. I installed them on the top, and they fit fine. Today I'm planning of clearing this body, and when I can get the hood done, I'm going to install one Rebel flag on the L88 scoop. Thanks for looking, any feedback is welcome.
W-409 Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Some clear. Looks pretty good, I think. After waxing it'll look good, I hope. Well I also detailed engine a bit. Added underpressure hoses and bit of carburetor linkage. Not too great but this engine will look good when it's installed. I built that alternator bracket from aluminium... More coming soon, I believe. Comments are welcome and thanks for looking.
W-409 Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 I painted Weiand logos from those valve covers...
