slapshot Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) Has anyone been to this show?Is it more local? Is it worth 4.5 hours drive time? Thanks Edited November 14, 2010 by slapshot
crispy Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Gary, While I have never gone to the show as I live in MN. I would highly recommend attending. This show is put on by one of the best model clubs I've seen. Nothing but rave reviews from any attendee I have talked to. I don't think you would regret it. Lots of top builders from around the country attend this show. I do believe they have coverage from the Model magazines as well. It's on my "to attend" list someday when my boys are out of the house. ronr Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I have been to the ACME show the last 6 years. If I could only attend 1 a year this would be it. Super bunch of guys who host the show. Vendors are great and coverage from Both the major mags. Several Hundred entries(never seen it under 500). Some of the Best modelers around displaying their builds. It does not get any better. Worth the Drive? You bet it is.
Gregg Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 It is one of the best shows in the country. One of the top five, for sure It is worth the drive, and flight. And it's well worth the $3,000 plane ticket. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it this year. My first time missing it in a long long long time. It is one of the best, and one of my favorite shows to go to. The people there, Wes, Bob, Mike, Wayne, everyone in the ACME club, are some of the best people and modelers in the world. I am going to miss this show. And, I am truly going to miss my friend, Winston Mitchel, who was one of the highlights of the show for me. He passed away earlier this year, and I will miss him dearly. I can't say anything more about this show. GO!!!!!
camaroman Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) Make the drive!!! I wish I could go, but since I was recently laid off, I cannot justify the $$$ I spend when I go, so I must stay away from the TEMPATION of all that Jimmy Flintstone resin, Slixx decals, Model Roundup show deals, MCW paints and resin bodies, etc! Now I have gone and depressed myself... Whaa Whaa ... :( Edited November 13, 2010 by camaroman
ffreak Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Camaroman said it all for me too. I have a blast when I go but this year just couldn't find the funds to feed my temptations !!
slapshot Posted November 14, 2010 Author Posted November 14, 2010 Thought I would share a sampling of the things I shaw @ the Souyhern Nats.
jeffb Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 i had blast! good folks, great models. would like to have sold more resin, but the times being the way they are...
slapshot Posted November 14, 2010 Author Posted November 14, 2010 One thing that I found different but a huge improvement was the extended PVC pipes on the table legs. Made viewing the models easier & less strain on the back. Plus it kept the models safer because there was less leaning or hovering over the tables.
