Junkman Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Here is a sculpture of noted artist Richard Pietruska: IMO he closed the gap between modelling and art. If you would like to read more about Richard and his work: http://www.rpmart.com/art.shtml
Eshaver Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I'ts an interesting piece............. Ed Shaver
sjordan2 Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 He does amazing work. I want all of them. (Except I'm not sure about the Fangio newspaper stand.) Kind of reminds me of some of Peter Lombardo's creations.
Modelmartin Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Ah! The old art and craft conundrum. There are a lot of people doing these shape "impressions" of different cars for a while now. I think they are kitsch for rich people. They are ok but they don't do much for me. I have seen art that I found to be so crappy that that it is offensive to call it art and I have seen model cars that are so profoundly artful that they to my mind they are "art". It isn't really the form of the object - it is how the creator goes about conceiving and making that object that determines its artfulness. That, of course, is in the eye of the beholder.
diymirage Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 speaking of closing the gap...how do you like this peice ?
Chuck Most Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 A sprue wall hanging? I must have one....
sjordan2 Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 One thing I've noticed over the years is that automotive subjects depicted in paintings or posters or sculpture or other media are seldom received as "art"; they seem to be regarded as illustrations or commercial graphics or kitsch. I disagree for many reasons, but won't get into the subject of "what is art?" I just think that automotive design fits right in there with all the other art forms, good or bad.
Harry P. Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Art means different things to different people. One mans "art" is another man's "######." There's no universal definition of what rates as "art." But IMO, that Mercedes that the guy used as his subject... (the real car, I mean, not his sculpture)... that's art. One of the finest pieces of automotive art ever. In my opinion. But like Dennis Miller says, "I could be wrong."
Chuck Most Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 But like Dennis Miller says, "I could be wrong." Yep.
seeker589 Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 That is a great way to store evergreen and plastruct stock! The car-ish thing is cool, too. Everyone has taste and there are plenty of flavors. Fear no art.
