DOT 3 brake fluid, castrol super clean/purple power from the dollar store, simple green, yellow can oven cleaner. all require an amount of soaking time and elbow grease.

what kind of paint?

How was it applied? (brushed,sprayed,dipped)

any bodywork/filler?

did you use a primer? if so what kind/type?

with the answers to these Questions we can better give you the best method.

There is a product out there called Scale Coat paint and decal remover, It works great, and will not damage the plastic, I have been using it for years, It take off ALL types of paint, You can find it at most hobby shops and online, the price is around $11 hope this helps!

I've used DOT 3 and 4 brake fluids and they work well. Be sure to clean off the model with soap and water, followed by denatured alcohol. You don't want any brake fluid residue on the model.

Scale Coat stripper works very well too, but it's expensive.

91% alcohol will take lacquer off fairly well. I've gone to that since messing with brake fluid is too messy and toxic.

If you do go the brake fluid route it'll probably be your best cheap option. It'll take off anything within a day.

Yeah, wheras 91 proof white lightning is a delicatessen! :P

On a more serious note: Have you guys ever tried thick bleach? I use it for decades and it works so well for me. It's the easiest thing to obtain and costs pennies. The looks one gets at the supermarket checkout when putting four bottles of that stuff onto the conveyor belt is priceless!

I've used bleach to remove chrome from plastic for years, works great

I just used Purple Cleaner engine degreaser to remove hand painted acrylic paint from the Ferrari I'm working on..

Works pretty good, but it has to sit for a while before it can be scrubber off.

Cheers, Ian
