Clay Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Could use a ladder.. IMO. Leaned up against the wall on its side.
GTMust Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Have a great vacation and a verrrrry merry Xmas and New Year. Cheers. Tony
Dr. Cranky Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Thanks, everyone. Jairus, that's very generous of you. Send it on down . . . My plan is to have a whole bunch of props that I can use to change up the look of the pictures . . . So all contributions to Cranky's Industrial Photo Op base are WELCOMED!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 That looks cool. A stack of tires like that for inside would be cool. Thanks for sharing.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Also, folks, I'm looking into spot lighting. If anyone has photographed with reading book lights and have any tips, I'm all ears.
Foxer Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I've never used those lights to photograph, but lighting is all relative ... one light to another. The basic lighting is one spot light ... maybe that reading light could work for this ... say to the right of the camera and up a bit. Then another lower level softer light to the left to fill in. This could be filtered with a thin cloth to soften it and lower the light level. The real trick would be to get the second light the same color temperature as the reading light. I'm not sure how those reading lights are colored. In truth, incandescent lights may give a nice yellowish lighting that would look like the sun going down and add to the image. Lighting an image is more complicated that rust! But, digital cameras make taking test shots a breeze .. and they are free!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Mike, what I am after are special FX stuff like spot lights, but also maybe some green and blue glow lights, etc . . . I also want to try and have screens to soften up the light . . . we'll see when the time comes what will turn out . . .in the meantime it sure is fun to think about the possibilities.
old-hermit Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 special FX stuff like spot lights, but also maybe some green and blue glow lights, etc Maybe old time big christmas tree lights ????? or paint some regular soft white bulbs ?????
Dr. Cranky Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Yes, small lights like those . . . I am thinking of flex neck book reading lights . . . you can find them cheap at discount stores.
Clay Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Maybe you should get some of those mini Christmas lights, if they are the right scale, to decorate the warehouse.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 2011 is going to be the year that I will learn how to wire up mini lights . . .
SuperStockAndy Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) If you posted it when it was done, it could have been in the "Real Or Model" quiz! Seriously though, your building is outstanding! Edited December 16, 2010 by Android
Dr. Cranky Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Thank you, and I am happy to report also that my Zombie figures arrived. I have to repaint them because they all have glow-in-the-dark flesh. I also have to remove them from the bases.
Harry P. Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Virgil, you have truly outdone yourself this time. Depending on the angle and how it was lit, that could easily pass for the real thing. (Don't forget a few pin-ups here and there... ol' Cranky would surely want a little "eye candy" of the female persuasion in his shop!)
Foxer Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I could see those small lights working as "highlights" and special lit areas with a little shielding of the bulb from the camera.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Thanks everyone. Yeah, Harry, the pinups are there, but I can add more! I've had plenty of time now to look this one over and it seems to me that it has "movie set" written all over it, so the possibilities are going to be endless . . .
Harry P. Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I was just looking at the photos again. Man, that is just absolutely outstanding work! Like I said, show those photos to someone who doesn't know it's a model and they'd never guess. It has just the right amount of detail, weathering, and miscellaneous bits and pieces. A 10+ for sure! You know how they say "you da man?" Well, you da man's man!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 Thanks, Harry. I have to say I'm looking forward to the New Year and getting back in to play some more with it . . . we'll see . . . where Cranky's mind goes . . . maybe it will continue to live and thrive in the gutter!
Tony T Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Thanks, Tony . . . here's what you need to make your own jack stands . . . http://public.fotki....k-stand-how-to/ Awesome!! Thanks for sharing that...I got me a little project now!!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 Excellent, and remember that once you get the hang of it, you'll not be able to stop! Also, show us how they turn out, please.
dannyi Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 ...absolutly amazing Virgil! Love watching and learning from your work!
Danno Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 This dio just keeps getting better and better! Dropping in from time to time is pure pleasure. Thanks, Cranks!
