I know it's a 2.5 4-cylinder, but aside from that I'm not sure. I can't tell if it's supposed to be a gas or diesel engine. I don't see a distributor on it, but I don't see an injector pump, either! Can anyone shed some light on this?

If it's the 4-cylinder from the Rover car, it would be a gasoline engine. IIRC, the distributor on the early engines was located at the end of the camshaft. If it's one of the later engines, it wouldn't have a distributor as it used something akin to a crankfire ignition system.
