imatt88 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 (edited) Hey all, Just picked this up, question is..I noticed a slight bow in the upper part of the body. Is this the old plastic that once its starts bending, its shot, or can I still give this the hot water treatment to try and straighten it out? I remember reading an article years ago in Scale Auto or Car Modeler magazine, about a guy who was restoring a old Ford promo model that was really bowed To save the kit, he ended up buying a resin body. Can I save this T-Bird? Cheers, Ian Edited December 12, 2010 by imatt88
oldscool Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Looks like one of the old Palmer kits to me. Run away from it as fast as you can:o. I built one and only one as a kid.
imatt88 Posted December 12, 2010 Author Posted December 12, 2010 I've never had one of these kits before and its pretty basic. It's on my "to do" list
Draggon Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I believe this is made out of the type of plastic that you can straighten in hot water. The promos were made of acetate. If it doesnt work, whatcha go to lose? I remember my first Palmer. The box art hooked me in, and then I got it home an opened it up. The multi piece body ticked me off, and the I saw that "chassis". I NEVER bought a Palmer again.
John Goschke Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Yep. That's a Palmer kit. As with most Palmer kits that T-bird will look great when you build it as long as you replace the parts with all the parts from an AMT '64 T-bird kit! Here's a built up Palmer kit of a '63 or '64 Buick Rivera (just in case you don't recognize what it's supposed to be.) This is what happens if you don't replace all the parts.
