Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) Here's the beginning WIP for the Mack Cruiseliner. The engine after asking around I learned is the ENDT 676. Mack's color for that was gold. I personally don't care for that color so I painted it a color that to me looks uniform. Instead of assembling the entire engine then painting it I decided to paint each component and then installed. Each different piece I mixed the paint a little different so a single color dosen't drown out the details. As it sits I'd say it 70% complete. It's for the most part put togather per instruction except for the filters. Those I actually made them so the screw on and off using brass nuts and bolts. The filters are solid round stock Evergreen scale. I choose to use Humbrol enamels so the motor will be left alone for a week or two to gas out and dry Thanks for looking. chuckyr Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Looks great. Yes, the correct color for the engine is gold, but according to a Cruise-Liner brochure I have, the 300hp 'high torque-rise" version is red.
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 UPDATE12-28The engine and trans are both done. Also are the wheels. On the inner rim I painted them w/ Model Master Titanium. This is to give the inner wheel that dull gray look. If you've ever seen an inner aluminum rim you know exactly what I'm talking about. Also on the brake drums I used an exacto knife and shaved off the inside lip of the drum. The thickness of the drum is nearly 2mm. That in 1:1 terms is close to 2 inches. 1:1 drums aren't near that thick. Another mod I did was used BMF to replicate the machined surface of the drums. Finally I painted the outter edge of the drums w/ dull coat cleear coat and used " Orange Rust" Tamiya weathering to look like the scale/and rust you find on older drums. Next is the chassis... Thanks for looking!!!
cowboysevens Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 looks like your puttin alot of detail into this mack, nice work so far dennis
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Here's the latest update. Thanks for looking!!! Starting w/ the fifth wheel I added slider lock linkage and pins. Also a set of fifth wheel pins were made. The plate was painted w/ Model Master aluminum metallizer base coat and a top coat of Tamiya semi gloss black weathered w/ Tamiya weathering master orange rust and gunmetal. Unassembled... Assembled... As an attempt to keep all drive tires on the ground I completely rebuilt the shocks so they expand and retract using KS tubing and styrene solid round stock. here's the chassis mocked up. Note the torsion bar. The ends were drilled out and some hollow round stock was used to make the bushings. I used Plastrct HEX and round stock styrene to make the torsion bar bolts.
Jim B Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Nice idea on the shocks. Those should keep your tires on the ground.
