Ferrari 512 TestaRossa, 1/12 scale

This Revell kit, I was very disappointed in the level of detail. This 1/12 scale kit has only about 125 parts. For example, there are no disc brake rotors/calipers at all. (I paid $30.00 for it at Hobby Lobby; it listed originally for $84.00.) Has anyone built this kit or has some knowledge about it? 'preciate it. thanks.

There is not a whole lot to know about it, it is a RoG kit, quite simplified. But even though it lacks some detail, it does has accurate dimensions and will built a nice replica of a Testarossa (not the 512!)

You paid a decent price for it, 84 is overpriced for such kit, but 30 is doable. I paid 20 euro's for mine, which would be 26 dollars or so, so in the same line.

Thank you for your interesting comments. My last name is Bolthouse but 3 or 4 generations ago it was Bulthuis. Maybe you've heard of Holland, Michigan. This city last year was judged to be the second happiest city in the U.S. behind Boulder, Colorado. It is a sort of resort town right on Lake Michigan. West Michigan (which includes Holland and Grand Rapids) supposedly has the most people of Dutch descent anywhere outside of the Netherlands. Cheers

The kit was originally tooled by Monogram, and is essentially scaled up version of the 1/24th kit they produced at about the same time. The Revell Germany kit is a re-issue of the Monogram kit. I've got one of the original Monogram kits in my stash. You're right, it's pretty simplified, especially compared to the Otaki Countach or even the Tamiya T70 and 910, but with some effort, can be made into a nice replica. Scale Details (www.scaledetails.com) makes a 1/12th plated photo-etch sheet that has some useful items (shift-gate, Ferrari emblems, steering wheel spokes, etc.) for detailing this kit

Yes, I've heard of Holland, MI, a forummember (DIYMirage) is living there too, but he is a 1st gen, so he is still Dutch. I had plans of going to Holland when I was living for a year in the States, but it never came to it. Now I have a american wife and soon with child, but I still hope to go to Holland one day, and look around. Do you still speak Dutch or did it got lost through the generations?

About the Ferrari; best thing is not to go full-detail or expect too much. It will build nicely as a showmodel, but with low detaillevel. If you want more detail; go for the 1/16's from Fujimi or the 1/8 from Pocher. (even though the Pocher has not that high level of detail either)
