shatteredsoul76 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I plan on building a 70 Superbee and giving it to my dad on Fathers day as he had one years ago and is very fond of them to say the least. The bad thing is I never seen the car as it was long gone before I came along but I grew up hearing all about it. Im still looking through builds here as well as some pictures from all over the web and Ive yet to find anything that would be close. It will be white, black interior, 440 six pack, 4-speed, pistol grip shifter, and with Cragar wheels. I current have the 70 coronet pro street but Im also looking at other Superbee kits. If I use the kit I have then I have to get the 440, Cragars as well as the regular hood. Also I am looking for kits that have the slim/fat Cragar wheels and right now Im leaning toward the 70 1/2 Baldwin Motion Camaro but I really hate to buy a whole kit for the wheels. Im open to tips as well as some suggestions from some of you guys that have built a Superbee.
slantasaurus Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 You might want to get AMT's reissued 69 GTX kit, it will have the chassis and 440 engine you need for the Bee and all of the pro street stuff from the Bee will fit under the GTX. For the hood, you'll have to go resin as no kit has the standard "pitchfork" hood.
mrmike Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 You can get the "pitchfork" hood from the Modelhaus. http://www.modelhaus.com/index.php?c=4082&p=64112
shatteredsoul76 Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Thanks for all the input so far guys. Im still looking at pictures for reference and Ill probably have to talk to my mom for more details since this will be a surprise for my dad. Im also looking at all the models mentioned that have the old school Cragars slim/fat and the '70 Baldwin Camaro is starting to look really good since I wouldnt mind building one of them anyway and just use some modern wheels on it. Slant, do you know how much difference there is from the AMT 69 GTX and the Revell 71 GTX 440 6 pack, I already have one of those kits. Mike, thanks for the link on Modelhaus, I wish they had more pictures for thier products though.
slantasaurus Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) There is a world of difference between the AMT GTX and Revell/Monogram kits, for one the 71 GTX kit is 1/24 scale, you'd be better off with an AMT 71 Charger. As I've thought about it some more, you might actually be better off getting the reissued AMT 70 Super Bee because you would still need the bucket seats from that kit as I remember the pro street version only has custom buckets. The chassis in the reissued 70 Super Bee is exactly the same as what would be in the 69 GTX, the GTX has 440 4bbl parts that aren't in other versions but you mentioned you need the 6bbl anyway (the GTX has 6bbl parts too, along with a Hemi). If you don't want to get another 70 Bee, I might (haven't checked) have a set of the bucket seats you would need, if I have them I'd trade them for the GTX 440 intake and carb... The B/M Camaro does have a nice set of Cragars, the Revell 67 Charger also has a set but all 4 are the same, not deep like the rears on the Camaro. Edited February 8, 2011 by slantasaurus
shatteredsoul76 Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 Thanks again Slant, I just ordered a AMT '69 GTX hardtop. I plan on using the 440 and chassis on the Bee and the Bee chassis and big motor and make the GTX pro street.
