Foxer Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 This is for the GMC Van I'm building. I have looked around and haven't seen anything good to start with making a couple of these. I can make decals for the red GMC and the black sections so just the shape would need to be made. I wouldn't try to get the black "spokes" actually carved out, just the black decals to give the impression. That would even be true to the original since the hubcap is a cheap imitation of a mag wheel. What I'm looking for is if anyone happens to know of some kit hubcap that could be a good start to making these?
Chuck Most Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I haven't seen the flat one like that, only the earlier 'bottlecap' type, in plastic and resin. Mike's right though- probably wouldn't be a big deal to scratch one up. You might be able to foil-copy the GMC letters off the hubs of an AMT '95 Sonoma kit.
Foxer Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 As I've been looking at this I think the idea of building it up from flat stock looks like the answer. Now to see how many different large circle punches I have.
