MikeMc Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 (edited) Yeah 6..that means a set of duals in the rear. Started with moving the front spring perch and drop axle forward. Then to the rear a little Z action, and now the bed floor is gone! Thanks go out to my Buddy Dan, for the sweet hand cast wheels and tires...another twist. Gonna run a flattie up front, may switch out the rear for a little more beef Nope no fenders either....more to follow. Edited March 28, 2011 by Stasch
Dr. Cranky Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Oooh, that's looking good. More, please.
diymirage Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 that looks cool but please please PLEASE put a set of decent rims on the front...i hate those "im to cheap to desing a set of rims for the front so in using the rears" that you see on all duallies

The gentleman who cast the rears also cast the fronts..totally different and correct..let me check for better pics...
MikeMc Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Oooh, that's looking good. More, please. Thank you Doc...I've got shine down pretty well so....this one will be my virgin sacrifice...I'm gonna salt and spray it, have some liquid mask..so a little more assy and fitting.
parki Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Ooh looking nasty, Deffinetly needs some o that Dr Cranky style salt treatment!!
pepperdrumstix Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Boy I like what is going on here. A slammed old truck without fenders and with 6 wheels-tires. Are you going to "rust out" the body? Are you using a blown flathead? This will be cool. I have been trying to make the old '37 Chevy "Orange Blossom Special" into a slammed fender less truck like this. I have Z'ed the frame front and rear and it will be powered by a 409 with dual 4 barrels. I will try to rust it up and that will be my first attempt at doing that. Good luck on your truck and I will be watching this build. Patrick M
diymirage Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 see, that is still the way i dont like it the front wheel is basically the back inner wheel minus the outter wheel it just looks cheap to me, like they couldnt be bothered to design a front wheel that would match the rear wheels even if they would shorten the fron axle so that they could fit the front wheel like the rear outer wheel it would look so much better, but as it sits the front looks incomplete (not knocking your resin caster, i know this is acurate, its just a gripe i have with the 1:1 trucks)

Even though you can't see it the greatest on the pic above, if you look close, you can see where there is an indented circle around the outer rear tire where the lugs are, and that is just on the inside where the raised portion is on the front wheel. By the way, Mike, where did you get the rims from? I could use a set or three. Edited February 20, 2011 by highway

(that ford has got to be the most posted truck on this forum, i swear ive seen it in at least a dozen different posts ) here is what i am trying to say : i understand the design on the 1:1 trucks and i agree the resin parts are great replicas but i personally just dont like the way it looks, to me it seems like it was designed to have duallies on the front AND back but they failed to install the front outer rims The reason that is done on the 1:1 trucks is so you can rotate the tires front to rear just by flipping the rim around. I understand what you are saying but to be honest after seeing this setup on duallies I think it would look very odd to have a front wheel with a deep offset like the rears. You could always try it in scale & post your results for us to see, it might look odd but it would be interesting maybe your right and the deep offset on the front would be too much but the way the inner hub sticks out on the front just looks wierd too, im sure weve gotten used to it because all duallies are like it but i still think that IF you want to keep the same rims all around it would look better if they installed the front rims like outers though i still think a special designed wheel with a lesser offset would look best on the front if someone has a set of duallies i can expirement with id be more then happy to convert the dual rears to single fronts but for now, this is how my "dually" rolls
MikeMc Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 By the way, Mike, where did you get the rims from? I could use a set or three. Those were hand cast along with the tires by a friend of mine...the detail is outstanding!!

diymirage Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 That is a nice truck diymirage. I love the Hemi scoop. STewart thanks its a truck i got as a build up but that was no big deal since it is the snap kit, it came apart pretty simple i added the shaker to give the impression of a hemi truck, lowered the front suspension and found a different set of rims the rear rims are the same as the front only cut down so they fit inside a piece of 1 inch conduit which was then wrapped in mickey tompson sportsman tires (one was just as wide as the two duallies) i wanted the truck to match the bike so i followed the same paint sceme on it
MikeMc Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 Well I guess I'm choppin this one...but I kept the stock rear window...went pretty smooth...
Randy D Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Hi Mike, This is great, a fellow '37 truck builder!! With 6 wheels! Love your wheels. The chop looks just right, how much did you take out? Randy

The chop looks just right, how much did you take out? Randy Hey yourself....I like the rat rio.......this chop is about 4mm...I wanted to keep the rear window full size, so I had about 4mm between it and the beltline....
MikeMc Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Got the cab all smoothed out...so I can rust it ??...at the last mockup I decided to drop the front of the cab to follow the frame and doorline better. Finished the fuel tank now I must decide to shorten the bed or not??? The stance is set, the front wheels will be inboard of where they sit now. I still have a bed floor to make, front and rear radius rods and linkages, but the tough stuff is mostly done
diymirage Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 coming together nicely Mike i would keep the bed full lenght if it were my call, i like how sleek it looks that way and im afraid if you shorten it it will become more pudgy (almost like it would take away from the visual effect of chopping the top)
ajulia Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Hola Gator' Man you sure do love those ashphalt scrappers! This is going to be sweet man I love the dually rear end!! The clearance is crazy!! Keep on wit the keepin on!
MikeMc Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 Well this update will show the bobbed bed....and the rear pan, and new partial wooden deck I also had to figgure out how to fuel this puppy, as the filler neck was removed. So I cut out a top for the tank, and it will mount in the stock location between the rails out back
MikeMc Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 the tank in the rear frame the body work looks almost done, bed mounts flush into the rear frame and pan. Need to add lights and pipes, complete suspension and steering
Randy D Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Really like how the shorter bed works with the rest of the truck. Sweet job on the new bed! Randy
MikeMc Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) Time for an update , and a tip of the hat to Dr Cranky ;) got the flattie all done couple of strombergs up top, a little flash, but stock .The frame was sandblasted, painted and the stock powertrain was re installed suspension has been lowered, and front stretched. late model 1 ton wheels and tires were installed . Wish I had more money then I could do the bodywork and paint, along with a comfy interior....oh well thats a Rodents luck Edited March 27, 2011 by Stasch
