Hey Mister Islander!

If it brings back good memories, thrn here are some more pics me and my friends took while picking it up:

Crazy redneck action. Drove it over 190 miles to my workshop, after it was standin' still for many years.

Pure fantastic! It's a spaceship.

It is a Kansas car, as far as I am concerned in al original state, we will weld the floors and other than that I plan to leave it as is. Then there is few things that need to be replaced so it's safer to drive and then I'd drive he hell out of it.

If you have some interesting facts about this cars, please share!

Sure. Why?

No reason, I just didn't know if you were experienced with it... sounds like you are! Some newbies may not realize that resin requires diff. glue. I have been building (the second time around) since 1989, and I have yet to build a resin body! Although I am working on a pickup w/ resin cab, that will be my first.

Hope you get that resin Cad.

You know what impressed me about 1959 and 1960 Cadillacs ? BALL BEARINGS !!!! Yep, General Motors in a quest to build the finest motor car used Ball bearings in their axle assemblies , front and rear then. Chevrolets and their counterparts used Roller bearings . Hey, I worked on many a Cadillac engine all the way to the NO ACCOUNT 4100's. Ed Shaver

Heh... Bearings huh? I can not tell you what impresses me most. This car is simply the top notch. There is not a single car out there that can be measured with Cadillacs standards. It is simply the best car ever built.

Jon, I might be a newbie around here, but that is mostly to the fact that I have a gazillion other hobbies, I started about 15 years ago with tanks and whatnot, so yeah, I have a good portion of experience with different materials, resin, white metal, whatever.

For now I would get one of those Johan things, and since they are warped, I'd try to straight out the body and make a resin copy, just because there you are sure that it will last. We'll see.

Adam, IF you can find a MINT Jo Han Cadillac kit, your gonna REALLY pay, brother! The Modelhaus's quality is second to none, the man IS GOOD! you WON'T get a warped body from him.PERIOD. He's probably your best bet cause to be honest with ya, those Jo Hans ARE RARE AND expensive..:)

There is, or has been, a resin kit based on the Monogram 59. Albeit being a 2-door hardtop, it is lightyears more authentic than the ancient Jo-Han.

All you'd need to do is re-scribe the doors, add the six-window roof courtesy of the modelhaus, and hey presto.

Yeah, I saw the Modelhaus Resin stuff. Me like alot, it seems they have just the Coupe. Seems to me as it is easier to striaghten out the warped Jo_han Body, or replace the front section with the Ecto-1 front, and then cast it in resin, and then have a good body.

Or just hunt for a god and straight Jo_han. Modelhaus is expensive aswell, so it does not really matter I geuss... One way or another, it will get beyond a normal Kit price, the only question is which way is it less work to get a nice six window?

Adam, You MIGHT depending on your skills, WANT to go the 59 Eldo route. Just cut the rear fins shorter, and get the proper roof from the Modelhaus. You WILL play heck tryin ta find a minty nice body. So that idea from the Junkman MAY be a good plan B.:angry::o

Well, I ordered one of those croocket Jo-han Cadillacs first. I see that the front of the one i choose is very bent, but I still have an Ecto 1 from Polar Lights, sporting fantastic shape and crisp detail, We will see how it will fit the Jo-Han body wehn I cut it of along the door and hoodlines. If that works, then I'll cast it in resin, and if not, then I still can buy the 89 Bucks Modelhaus Coupe, lenghten it and use the Jo-han roof.

Your '60 Cadillac is a Fleetwood 6-window sedan. Johan did this body style as a promo and an annual series kit in 1960, but as the upscale, seriously up-trimmed Fleetwood 60 Special--with a lot more chrome trim, and a vinyl top. X-EL, JoHan's series of revived promotional model cars, had this one in the early 1980's. X-EL promotionals were molded in styrene, rather than the prone-to-warping acetate plastic of the original issues. However, it does have serious scale deficiencies, both in overall length, and width. This was due to a GM requirement that ALL promotional models to be purchased by General Motors had to fit the same standard-sized boxes, regardless of the make or body style. So, JoHan shortened the front clip, the trunk area (the "greenhouse" or roof structure is the correct length for 25th scale though!) and the body of the Cadillacs was a full 1/8" (3 scale inches) too narrow, all in order to fit the prescribed box.

Shawn Carpenter Scale Models produced (may still make it) a resin transkit of the 1960 Eldorado Biarritz convertible to fit the Revell-Monogram '59 Eldorado. This would work, but would require the use of the JoHan roof, along with the windshield frame and glass, from an AMT '59 El Camino (to get the correct higher windshield and roofline of the sedans vs the hardtops or convertibles. And, of course, it would require widening the JoHan greenhouse by 1/8", which I have done (for a '59 Chevy Biscayne sedan--same body as the Cadillac sedans, BTW) using some .040"x,125" Evergreen styrene strip. The back window glass would have to be widened by this same dimension as well, which would make vacforming new glass for the rear necessary.

Thanks Art. Yup, I am aware that there will be lots of work, but since I have the best inspiration and measurments in the garage, I guess I'll be fine. Never seen any of those models, so I just wait until the warped thing arrives, then measure, measure, measure... And then decide which way is best to get a nice model of my car. We'll see.

Diggin' it up!

After 6 Months of hunting Ebay I actually found a Jo-Han that has not been messed around with. Windowglas seems perfect, body is straight and the Chrome is in good condition. I am happy as hell, since almost every single one that I had a look at was either completley bent or the seller wouldn't sent that stuff to europe. Was not cheap whatsoever, but I let a friend bid on it that wanted a LEGO Cadillac that I built for fun at work, he bid as much as he was willing to pay for the LEGO thing :D...

If it is really that much off, there is still the Modelhaus Conversion as an option, but I will decide after I saw it and checked the proportions with my real car.

It will be a great modelbuildingwinter! Whoa!
