64 Galaxie 500 XL

I came across this old, built, AMT 64 Galaxie Hardtop, the one with the operating lights. I do have a real nice, original un built kit, with the working lights, that I plan on holding on to. So this was the one I was going to play with. The only thing was, this one was a glue bomb. I got it cheap, and stripped it down, and cleaned all the old glue off of it. I got the glass, bumpers, and grill, from the Pro Shop 64 kit, and the engine came from the 64 Modified Stocker kit, as the engine that came with it was not useable. There is embossing powder on the floor. the seats are from a 67 Chevelle. The rims and tires are from my parts bin, and the hood is a resin piece. The front axle I had to make, so I could use the rims. The only thing I really thought that could be done better...was the paint. I really got to get one of those polishing kits, and start practicing. This is only my 4th BMF job as well. Any comments, and pointers are appreciated.....

I think it looks pretty good. This is a bear of a kit to foil, and race cars from the earlier era didn't have super shiny paint anyway. oops one thing to add, cut the foil in the door lines, makes it look much more realistic

Thanks for the tip Brett, it does look more realistic now.

As for the wheels, I think I got them off Ebay. I do not know what kit they were from though.

And the color is Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red. I used Tamiya gray surface primer, probably should try the white primer with this paint on some old styrene, to see how it would look.

Nice car, engine & paint look good, polishing a car out is not that hard really, my very first one came out pretty good, just make sure you have enough paint on it so you don't sand through.

Made me look. Always one of my favorites,a friend had one in college, turquoises with a 427. Great build.
