ScottC Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) Hello All, I'm new to the model game and i have been reading the forum looking for tips to help me get started and i have found some very helpful information. There is one specific problem i have and it is with a very bad mold mismatch line on the roof of the kit i have. I decided to start with the Revell 1/25 1970 challenger as i want to duplicate the car my dad had back in the day. I've posted some pics, however, they are not very good. Can someone provide me with some tips for cleaning up this mold line while maintaining a consistent roof line. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott Edited March 13, 2011 by ScottC
Greg Pugh Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 It's kind of hard to see in the pics but the best thing I can tell you is to carefully sand mold lines. Don't sand too much as you don't want to lose the contours of the original body. Sometimes a filler is also needed.
george 53 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I don't have this particular kit because I read and saw reviews on it which were rather negative. After seeing your pics I'm glad I didn't buy it! What a ridiculous place for a seam line. The roof in the area of the windsail(C-pillar) is gently curved to resolve itself into the quarterpanel AND the upper shoulder line. And the EDGE over the doors are gently rounded into the raingutter seam. Whoever did the research on or for this kit was a few sheets into the wind! The old MPC kits, and the newer 70 Challenger AMT kits are MUCH better starting points as they are much more accurately depicted. :o
