Dr. Cranky Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 As most of you who've been following the MARCH MAD-NESS out of Doctor Cranky's Lab-RAT-Ory know, I've been working on not one, not two, not three, not four, but FIVE, YES! FIVE Fifty-Five Chevys, the last one of which I have built for my fellow Lab-RAT-Ory contributor and someone who works tirelessly behind the scenes here at Model Car Magazine Forum, Mr. Harry Pri. Harry and I have spent a couple of years working on a project (more on that soon) and he was instrumental in getting Doctor Cranky to stop whining and get busy. So THANK YOU, Harry. I hope you and the folks at the REVELL/GearZ National Model Contest like this sucker. I know I had a blast building it and I am currently putting the finishing touches on it, in particular the trunk details . . . So without further adoo-hoo-hoo-hoo, here's Doctor Cranky's "TIKI 5-FIVE"--Can you say that five times in a row, please? Stay tuned in for another round . . . with the working parts . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks, Don, I appreciate it. My main concern is that Harry, who will only find out that this is here and that THIS is HIS model, will like it. I really don't care about the national contest, but I've been wanting to build something special in gratitude for all the hard work Harry has put into Doctor Cranky's model building career!
Dr. Cranky Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks to all. Here's the vid for a further look and explanation of the things done to this thing:
Mooneyzs Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Very Nice Cranky!! Looks great and amazing paint work my friend.
Sully Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Super job. Doc, you are the Master............. Sully
Dr. Cranky Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks, it's got a couple of rough spots that I gotta work on . . . and they show up in the pictures well, which is an indication of my eye deterioration.
raymanz Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Lookin Good-Kinda reminds me of the Ol'Aztec56-Good Job! Hey,about the contest I didn't relize till I went to enter my 2nd entry that its only one entry per person. This really bummed me out because both my entries are contenders. Good Luck!!
Jon Cole Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 A gift! Very cool! I bet he likes it! Good job, Doc!
Tony T Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Nicely done, Virgil! If Harry doesn't like it, well, then send it to me! I'd help you out!
novadose71 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 The paint on that is insane. Should stand out on Harry's shelf.
Harry P. Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I think you used some colors on that thing that weren't even invented yet before you started! I don't know how you do it... every one of your creations is so different and so unique; you never seem to repeat yourself. Looks like there is still plenty of untapped "Cranky Creativity" available for several more "projects" down the road...
Dr. Cranky Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Thanks, chaps . . . I hope Harry doesn't have a cat!
Harry P. Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 BTW... nice tiki music in the video! I have a craving for a pina colada all of a sudden...
Dr. Cranky Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 LOL! Yes, I spent about 20 minutes searching the YOUTUBE catalogue for just the right tune, although there was one called Harry's Way, I almost used, until I remembered Doctor Cranky's way! Well, I hope you like your model, chap. Now the question is how I'm going to ship it to you so that it arrives in one piece. Or maybe I will send it to you in pieces, and you can put it together!
Dr. Cranky Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Actually Harry, here are the House of Kolor colors that went into this: Orion Silver Tangelo Pearl Cocoa Pearl Planet Greet Razberry Pearl Kopper Pearl Tru Blue Pearl Rootbeer Candy Green Pearlescense Flakes And probably a few others I am forgetting.
Harry P. Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 This song is running through my mind right now... Thanks, V! You made my day!
Clay Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Virgil, here is how I have had models shipped to me, wrap it in paper towels and put it in a model box full of packing peanuts, then put that in a padded box. Thats how Raul sent me the Avanti he built for me and how Curt sent me the 53 Starliner Coupe also. Hope this helps. Great job, by the way on the Chevy. If Harry doesn't like it I will take it
Dr. Cranky Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Thanks, Clay . . . I like that idea . . . it will probably arrive in Chicago in a pretty good shape, I hope.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Jose, I can't remember where those puppies came from. They were in my parts bin, and the minute I saw them I knew they were right for this build. Chrome smoothies . . .
Iron Fist Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Doc, I always like looking at your builds (who doesn't) but I'm not digging this one, craftsmanship is superb as always!
Dr. Cranky Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 LOL, that's because Tiki, like Rat Rods, is an acquired taste!
