Ben Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hey guys, what's the difference between the Offenhauser and Edelbrock midget kits? Just the decals?
jbwelda Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 well, and sorry to belabor the obvious, i think the motors are different. and probably some supporting parts as well.
Gregg Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I did photo reviews of the two kits on the main mag web site modelcarsmag.com it should be linked right there on front page
Chuck Most Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 The front nerf bars are different on the two kits, and the Offy version has satin chrome instead of factory painted silver parts (I hear the next run of A-v8 versions will have this as well). Other than that, the decal sheet, and the hood, they're the same deal. Oh- look carefully if you buy the Offy version... the instructions say it has the A-V8, even though they did change the assembly diagrams to the Offy!
Ben Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 Actually, the front nerfs are two-piece assemblies and only the top bars are different. The V8-60 piece has a "V" in the center (for Vic Edelbrock; the kit was patterned after his 1:1 midget) while the Offy piece has an "O." Also, the V8-60 and Offy cars used different nose pieces and grills in 1:1, and, such is the case with Revell's kits. (The V8-60s, being larger displacement engines, needed more cooling capacity, thus, those cars had larger grill openings. That's also why the V8-60 kit has a louvered hood and the Offy doesn't.) However, Revell has included the nose pieces and grills for both cars in both the V8-60 and the Offy kits. Oh, and the hood sides are different as well. The V8-60 ones have exhaust pipe openings in both sides, while the 4-cylinder Offy has an exhaust cutout in the right hood side only. Also, the Offy has two left hood sides _ one with a cutout for fuel injectors and another that mounts two round chrome air cleaners if the modeler chooses the twin-carb option. Hope this helps, Ben! That's a big help, Ken! Thanks!!
