bbowser Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I'm looking to build a '59 Cadillac Nomad wagon (Nomillac...Caddymad?) using the Ecto-1 and Monogram convertible as a base. Anyways, I've been piecing together some drawings using my very limited skills with Windows Paint program. I'm pretty comfortable with shortening the beast to the stock wheelbase of 130", according to my research Nomads were based on convertibles? Where I'm unsure is the roof treatment. Here's the stock Ecto-1: Here it is shortened to the convertible wheelbase (approx)and chopped slightly to fit the convertible windshield height: The roof seems a little too tall (deep?), but I'm looking for opinions about the B and C pillars. Here's a '59 Chevy Nomad roof grafted on: So what do you think?

If you find a more traditional roof, such as the '59 Chevy as you stated, you need to get one from R+R, or Jimmy Flintstone. I was able to find a pic of a 1960 Cad converted to a Woody Wagon, with the more traditional wagon roof.
Jim Gibbons Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 If I were doing it, I'd use your last rendering which is the factory prototypical roofline for the '59 wagons. Jon's picture of the wood grained '60 gives a good idea of how it might look. I know there is a resin '59 Chevy Brookwood 2dr wagon body (a really nice one is posted in the recent "Longroof" thread.) That's my 2 cents worth. I feel that if GM had built one, it would have had that roofline and detailing as the other makes. Some Nomad style trim strips on the tailgate (maybe horizontal for a Caddy?,) combined with Cadillac themes, would look great.
Lunajammer Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Yeah, I'm all on board with the standard wagon roof. If I'm not mistaken the Ecto-1 is 1/24. You might consider the Tom Daniel '60 Street Fighter as a donor. It's also 1/24 scale and is currently available. I even see Hobby Lobby carries it in some places and can be had with one of their discount coupons.
evilone Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 hmm your on to something here i may have to check it out by using a regular 59 caddy and a junker nomD BODY.
bbowser Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 So a little more googling and I find that the Buick and Oldsmobile wagons of '59 have virtually identical rooflines to the Chevy. This appears to be the way to go.
Jon Cole Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Friend of mine built a '59 Chevy Brookwood Wagon. I don't remember if it's a JF, or R&R resin.
