W-409 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 This has been now on my workbench for few days... It's inspired by mrmike's '68 Hemi Roadrunner. This Suber Bee has a nice body shaping and it looks quite mean. Hopefully this buid is coming along quite fast, I think so... I got this one for free some time ago. The body was painted red and I think, that there are all of the parts. I didn't notice that something is missing when I got through the glue bomb. I took it apart first. I did broke the rear window, it was glued very hardly to body. Other parts are good. Right now body and chassis are in the paint stripper. I must strip the paint from few other parts as well, but first I want those to be ready... I painted the 440 Big Block orange. Manifold and carburetors are silver, as in some reference picture. I don't know if it's orange usually, but that's good to me. I painted also the exhaust manifolds and distributor. I also added ignition wires to distributor, but they are not ready yet. I drilled holes to cylinder heads, to make the job lots of easier. I painted the interior carpet matt black. Door panels and backseats are painted brown, they are like brown leather. I must paint still those front seats. I painted Good Year textes from one tire, now I must paint the rest of them. This is the basis of this project. Continues soon...
mrmike Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Niko, you are off to a good start and I am happy to be an influence to you! I have built two of these Super Bees. One, a 383 in SubLime Green and one, a Hemi in B5 Blue Metallic. I'm looking forward to more!

RodneyBad Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Your off to a good start. Yes, Valve covers are upside down and the distributor is more slanted toward the Passenger side.
W-409 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the feedback. Valve covers are upside down, that's bad. I think that they are so heavily glued to their place that I have no way to take them off and glue them correctly. They were glued like that, as you see from the second picture and I didn't manage to get them off when I was taking this one apart... Well, maybe I just let them be and hope that details are looking that good that everybody doesn't mind the valve covers... Distributor is in quite good position, I think, but you can't see it well from those pics, I must take better ones. There is an update coming later, so stay tuned. Edited April 29, 2011 by W-409
Guest Sickfish Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 not to be a cridick but the valve covers are upside down.. Mate, not to be a "critic", it's ok to be one but at least spell it right or use your spell-checker Niko your Superbee look's cool for something that's been salvaged Looking forward to seeing another Mopar returned to it's former glory Cheers Cliffo
W-409 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 Thanx, Cliff! I got some work done yesterday. I installed plug wires to the engine. The firing order is correct for Mopar 440. Wires are Scale Dreams' stuff and they are looking fine. I also painted the front seats brown, but they aren't still installed, because I must detail the door panels first. Chassis plate is right now stripped, there are no paint anymore, exept few little pieces in tight places. I'll be able to spray some primer on it soon. Body needs some more stripping, but it's coming along good.
retrobuilder Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 its fun to restore an old glue bomb aint it? looks good to me!!
Guest Sickfish Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Niko, so far you're doing a great job mate Maybe this is your first Mopar build?? I have a tip for you, the distributor ( look's great ) position should be to the left of where you've put it mate... You've actually put it where the waterhose need's to be connected ( to Radiator ) . You'll need to take it out, drill a hole beside it & re-install the distributor, otherwise you'll find that you won't be able to fit the waterhose . I have many, many reference pictures if that would help you? Cheers, Cliffo
W-409 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 Richard: Yes, it's really fun to restore these glue bombs, there is just one way. Up! Cliff: The pics would help me very much! Must take that distributor off, hope that it's still possible. Maybe I have to make those plug wires again, or then they are maybe long enough and I have no problems taking with moving the distributor... I've built some Mopars before this one. '71 GTX, '58 Belvedere are finished and I have '68 Hemi Dart and Chi Town Hustler, '67 Hemi Charger and '41 Plymouth WIP. Well, Plymouth has Chevy Big Block and blower, but otherwise it's Mopar.
modelguy( jeff) Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 your superbee looks great as for the vavle covers its ok and the color is good on this how old are you iam thinking around 15 right so for the older guys to say you did this wrong its ok there just pointing out stuff to help you along
W-409 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 Thank you, for the nice words. I'm now 14, but on december, I'll be 15 years old. I did some work to that distributor. I got it off quite easily, and I moved it a bit. Not much, because I don't wan't to make new plug wires and if I take those off, it would be very hard to get the new ones fit to old holes because they are full of glue and drilling them again should not be good choice... Well, it's better. It's not in the correct place but it's alright to me that way, most important thing is that I can now put the waterhose on its place. I did some work on the interior too, I put some BMF to door panels and painted the window cranks silver. Next step is gluing seats... I painted the belt and those pulleys and tire textes are now painted from every tire and wheels are finished too.
Guest Sickfish Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Niko you're doing well champ! I see you've moved the distributor a little, that's fine mate as long as you can fit the waterhose where it needs to be fitted. As you can see in the picture & for future builds, you will know where it goe's Cheers Cliffo
W-409 Posted April 30, 2011 Author Posted April 30, 2011 Yes, thanx, Cliff! Now the waterhose will fit nicely and I can continue the work with this. Thanks for the picture too, that's great! Now when I start another Mopar project, I must put that distributor correctly. Then it's easier to continue the build without fixing old mistakes.
W-409 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Today I worked with engine and interior. I glued the seats to interior floor. I also glued Hurst's Pistol Grip shifter on its place. Also I did some engine work... I detailed it with throtte linkage, and throttle return spring. Also I added fuel lines and some other details too. I drilled some holes to carburetors, now they are looking more realistic and I can display this car also without air cleaner. I added some black wash to that engine too, for some realistic look. Now it looks pretty good, I think... Added belt and the pulleys, and alternator etc.
justin2020 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 That looks great. Nice weathering. I would not want to change the spark plugs on this thing. Talk about tough to get to. Keep up your great work
W-409 Posted May 5, 2011 Author Posted May 5, 2011 I would not want to change the spark plugs on this thing. Talk about tough to get to. Yes, that's true! Thanx for the kind words! Progress has been quite slow for the last few days, but now I have again some time to get back on the workbench and continue the building. Next step is interior work...
W-409 Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 I worked with interior few days ago. Seat belts are now installed, I decided to put them to front seats and for the backseat too. This is going to be Super Bee with lots of factory options... Seat belts are from Scale Dreams, and photo etch belt buckles are MCG. I also primered the chassis, but now I'm waiting the body to get ready from stripper, so I can paint them both... The paint doesn't wan't to leave from the body, I think...
W-409 Posted May 26, 2011 Author Posted May 26, 2011 The body is finally coming from the stripper. I can't get anymore paint off from it. Well, it needs some sanding, but it's alright for me. I need to put that thing ready for primer and then I can spray some primer, and after that I can paint the body.
W-409 Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 I have sanded the old paint off (that paint what didn't go off from the body in the stripper.) I also added some bondo to the fenders, and now it needs some more sanding before I can spray the first primer coat on it. But this one is getting close to painting.
W-409 Posted June 12, 2011 Author Posted June 12, 2011 I have sanded the body smooth for primering, and I graved panel lines bit deeper. I painted some primer too, and now it needs just body color. Then I can continue the chassis buildup too. I'm going to paint this one with spray gun, and Revell Enamel paint. And oh yes, red of course.
W-409 Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 I did some more bodywork today for this one. I found some scratches and other spots what needed some putty. So I made some fillind to the front fenders. After sanding, I think that they are looking really good and the body is ready for final primer and then the red color coat. Thanx for looking.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Thats coming along nicely Niko looks real good. Cant wait to see that color fly.
W-409 Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 Thanks, Ron! I'm trying to lay that color at last next week. Now it needs still one primer coat after sadning, I think. The hood and some other little parts are still waiting for the stripper, I didn't remember them. But the paint goes off fast, I hope.
