LAone Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) shakotan means: simply put, lowered chassis, nearly scrapping the floor, no speed bump access, oh snap! my oil pan cracked and destroyed my engine...ooops..good thing its plastic.. hey guys. well i decided to break this Z away from the 510 thread. taking a break from it. i think it deserves a bit of it's own spot light. the kit is an old USAIRFIX kit. motorized and absolutely no detail to give it that wow effect. not only that, but it comes with the huge US bumpers..yuck. not using them. im pretty much keeping it that way. simple but with a bit of bite. now i know how much you guys love negative camber, so i dry fitted with the most i can get out of them... J/K.............. the rear is still in the works. im angle sanding the plastic hub holding the wheel until i get something functional. which will be like on the first pics. i might leave the long pipe, but ill be using other material for it. as you can see i covered up the holes that are suppose to be for the motorized part of the kit. im working on the battery interior tub. you can kinda see what i have to work with. it's a super simple build, but yet it's taking me so long to finish it..lols..i hope the extra details make this one better. something to fill its mouth. needs a bit more work. but it'll look legit when done. Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Cool deal! Dont see those on the road much anymore, unless its at a drift contest. That looks like a turbo happening. Or did they use big radiators in those things? What are the seats from, did they come with that kit? Can't wait to see what you do with the motor, if memory serves me correct they were pretty plane jane maybe with the cover black or something, are you gonna flash it up at all?
Draggon Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Thats looking great! I like your style, especially the 510 and Celica you have posted. Where in the world do you find those stretchwalls? Ive looked at HLJ and Hobby Search but have been unable to find any.
LAone Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 (edited) thanks fellas. ron, this is a plane jane no engine detail build. i put the intercooler in place cause, well there would be just a huge hole.. and if i didnt cut out the plastic in that area, there would be a wall..now that wouldnt look right. so i cut it out and added the intercooler. the seats came from an aoshima ae86 kit. draggon, there are a few sets on ebay right now. hobby search is coming out with new sets soon and so will hlj. i get some when available cause you wont know when the next batch will pop out. i use to get them from hwjapan, but they closed up shop due to the tsunami/earthquake. other than that its a hunting spree for them. LAone Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 thanks dbl d. this one is the one that was with the 510. this on is not an amt kit. although it do have a couple of monogram 280z's and a revell 240z kit. for power, an RB26 would be nice. thats next for another 240z that i have..lols the aluminum is actually a solid piece of aluminum tig rod. 1/8 diam. i tried to drill through it by hand, but didnt get too far..
LAone Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) well, progress is really slow. with this odd weather we've been having in cali, i take a beating on allergies and having a head cold. sucks really. this is what i have done eariler this week and last night i got some primer on some parts. as soon as they get paint, i can finish this quicker and get back on making parts for the 510. i decided to clean up the intercooler and put my own charge pipes. once painted ill add detail like hose coupler and clamps oh yeah, i forgot about the headlights. they are from a thunderbird kit. they looked like projector lights, so i tossed them on there. the dashboard got a slash of flavor. tonight i paint some parts and correct some scrates on the chassis that can still be seen. stay tuned and happy motoring. LAone Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 thanks. good eye dave, the mkIII and the work equip have some that i found. don't know what they are from, but the profile fits them good i think. this weekend, im going to gather what i have in wheels and gonna work on a new background.
Corvette.Jeff Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 love the hellaflush style, gonna be building my 1:1 del sol up in hellaflush/flush style.
Lownslow Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 nice build im working on a 240Z building a representation of the Akuma Z
LAone Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 thanks guys. an update, not a huge one but hey, it's an update for the viewers. this one should be done real soon so i can get back on the 510. here i shot the intercooler using alclad II in aerosol. i used semi gloss black cause i didnt want the full chrome effect. here are my brakes waiting for paint on calipers and a bit of wash, the tail lights in progress and the seats waiting for microballoon flock oh and, that yellow 280 in the back, it might be my next project after i finish the 510.
LAone Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 heeelllo viewers, here is some more. it's a bit, but its getting there. here i used some microballoon filler on the seat. it's the first time i used it, i like it, but i need to use some paint instead of white glue. the tail lights almost done, the calipers painted and the MSD box for the 510. i sent the MKII's to get cleaned up and repowdercoated. the shop doing the work loaned me some bilbo wheels. the look quit good. heres the intercooler with couplings on. a shot of the of the dashboard in place
LAone Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 heres a small update. hope you guys enjoy. this is the seat up close. this was done with microballoon filler. not bad i think. it's my first time using the stuff. the dashboard sun beatened the stickers. wheels with chrome stripped an idea of the color of the wheels tail lights on by the way, for those looking. thanks.
LAone Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 ok viewers. im gonna give this a try. you look but no comments ect ect. but i would like to know what you think of this. the muffler sits on the drivers/left side but comes out on the passenger/right side. now, i dont like that cause i would have to run a piece of rod across the rear. i tried it and i did not like it, so i came up with this. now for those that dont know, the hang ring you see is a trend in japan. it pretty much a sign of rebelion. they are taken/stolen from trains and are hung on the rears or in the interiors to show their rebelion. so i chose to use it cause in cali, anything you do to your car is illegal and i can say this one is not legal yay or nay?
LAone Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 hey mike. its an actual ring that comes in some of the older aoshima wheel sets. of course ill have to paint it. on these 280zx's they have 2 hood extractors. one on each side as you can see in one of my pics from before. these are period correct. as for where the air goes, well nowhere. the kits chassis is a motorized type. but not like ones of today. on the first post, you can see how bad it is. if it had engine detail then i would make a proper extractor, like a drop vent.
