sno_man80 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I started on the Lindberg a couple weeks ago and havn't gotten to far. I went to prime it up and came across what I thought would be a good primer to use, Sand White Primer. If your not new to this you know where I went wrong! Thats not the name of the color, theres sand in this primer! So I found my self sanding the sand away! Lucky for me this is easy to wet sand away. But as I adjusted this, oops. I got the flock applied to the interior and part of the block put together, keep in mind the interior paint is still a work in progress and so is the motor! Will have new pics next weekend hopefully!!
mhadman Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 keep posting about this build...I have one also and would like to hear if there are any problems...looks good so far...keep working !
sno_man80 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Wow! Flocking rite out o da can! Thats not out of a can thats out of a tube, I brushed on Elmer's Glue, and with a small strainer I layed the flocking over it, rather simple really. As for building the kit, the biggest pain is putting the motor together is so far the biggest pain, but the hard part is in the past, the toughest part for me now is being patient!! I don't have a digital camera so I'll have updated pics next Saturday. Thanks for looking.
Harold Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 This is one of my favorite kits- sorry about the primer, but hopefully it was a small annoyance. I have one box stock, and another where I'm using the bed from AMT's snap 4X4. The parts count may seem daunting, but these are very enjoyable builds. Good luck.
sno_man80 Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 I did find use for that sandy primer, I sprayed the bed with it and I'll spray my final color over it, and it should have the look and feel of a bed liner. I plan to spray the frame as well the same way to have the underliner coating effect. So I think I may have found a use for this mistake! Luckily I got it off the parts I didn't want it on, it came off really easy.
sno_man80 Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 Sorry my update is a week late... Primer still needs to be wet sanded, hopefully by Tuesday. The glass work has 3 coats of Future floor wax. Started running the brake lines, still have quite a bit of work to go. the red and black are the battery cables, the silver is the fuel line, the copper in the back is the one of the first brake lines. Its all a work in progress!! This is my first model I have tried to run brake cables, fuel lines, future wax and used flocking on, I'm learning alot as I go, any tips would be great, thanks!!
sno_man80 Posted May 6, 2007 Author Posted May 6, 2007 Heres the body before its wet sanded, I hope to get to that by Tuesday, I'm not so sure what went wrong, or if its just the Lindberg plastic but the body seems a bit "pitty" the feel is rather smooth but it needs a hell of a sanding. You can see the pitty effect in the fender glare. Then heres the finished interior, the seats and floor are flocked.
monsterman Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 WoW thats some really nice updates and detail work I love detail wire great job so far
chuckinredneck Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 your truck is looking good I've been wondering about them Lindberg Kits, Looks like I might have to try one Chuck J
Harold Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Lookin' great. I believe the 'pitty' texture is merely orange peel from the paint itself. Let it cure for a week or so and give it a good polishing. My (almost) box stock build is Testor's Arctic Blue Metallic over metallizer aluminum with a Testor's clearcoat, and my other one is Dupli-Color Jade Green Metallic and Tamiya Light Sand. I encountered no problems with the plastic reacting to either type of paint, so orange peel is probably what you're experiencing. Yours is coming along quite nicely.
sno_man80 Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 I'd say its orange peel, I started sanding it down, I hope that works for it, I wanted it done for a car show and well, that won't happen! But I may just dunk it in Super Clean and start it over, I've put quite a bit of time in this and need the clean finish. I'm gonna try to reshoot it after I get it wet sanded smooth.
Harold Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Here's a couple of my Lindberg Fords. One is box stock (almost) and the other is getting the bed from the AMT 4x4 snapper. The green one is wearing a new coat of paint, as I wasn't satisfied with the two toning (I'll remask and reshoot the tan this weekend)
