SpreadAxle Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 That is definately a Detroit Diesel 8V92 Silver.
J Smith Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 Thanks Flatbedkw for the reply. I added 3-4 scale feet to the body to make it longer, I saved a pic of a kw I liked This is where it is @ this time Please feel free to comment
rottin1 Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Very cool! I would like to do this as well with a cabover model. How did you make the big bunk? I would like to know. I could use an idea or two! very nice work so far!! Love it!
SpreadAxle Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 That's cool. I like the stretched cab look. I see the pic had a box sleeper behind the cab, but this is better.
SpreadAxle Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 oh, by the way, when you paint the engine, up until the late 70's, early eighties, many engines in KW's were red. And this truck is from that time period.
Jim B Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Red? I thought Peterbilt & KW had white engines in the 1970s & 80s? Jim
SpreadAxle Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 I know Peterbilt painted engines white, but KW and International liked their engines red. I'm not sure if KW painted engines white as well, but I know about red. I'm just not sure if it was every single engine like Peterbilt. From what Tim tells me, if you install a Detroit Diesel 8V92 Silver, you can leave it silver as Detoit Diesel apparently used to fuss about painting engines white. But it seems that by the mid 80's, everyone installed engines in their factory color. CAT yellow, DD green, and Cummins Beige. I know a lot of older Kenworths I have seen that still have their original engine have them painted red. It seems from drivers I've talked to that older trucks tended to get a new engine if the owner kept them a long time. I hope that helps a little.
