gappa508 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Here are some pictures at my first attempt to build a garage. i used foam board for the base and building. The building is a garage that i had a large poster made of and then sprayed with matte clear coat. The doors and window were cut from the poster and also sprayed with matte clear. The asphat is 80 grit sandpaper that was painted with grey primer and flat black spray paint. The car in the picture is a Grand Am demolition derby car WIP. I have decided to start from scratch on this build and it will be much more detailed outside and in. This started as a background for my pictures and i have decided to make it a lil more than that
gappa508 Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 Any suggestions on buliding materials to use would be greatly appreciated. I am very new to the diorama aspect of model building.
MikeMc Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 First attempt?? Looks great....the block looks like its been there for a while...nice I thought it was a real building with a model out front
GTMust Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 That is really nice! Very realistic looking. Congratulations! Tony
george 53 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Get ahold of Ed Shaver, our resident Foam Board nut, you'd be AMAZED at what he can do with that stuff. THEN get ahold of our own Danny Iacoangelli, HE makes ALL the LITTLE things that'll make your Dio POP! They're BOTH the best at wat they do, and you'll be VERY happy with what they can help you with!!!! ;)
Eshaver Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I would say he's al;ready paid attention to the exterior of the building what with the wash on the concrete block .Hey, use yer Imagination, go look at 1-1 garages , take a camera , lok at the pictures son ............ Ed Shaver
thesnake87 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 That sand paper gives me an idea... maybe if they have it in 180 - 220 grit for later builds. I'm sure they do... hmmm
GTMust Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I used 180 grit waterproof paper on my "two car garage" in this forum, then gave it a light grey wash with acrylic craft paint from the dollar store. It seemed to work for me. And the 80 grit seems to work for you!! Nicely done. Tony
charlie8575 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Nice work on that so far. Where on the Cape are you? I'm up in Marlborough. If you're free on the third Wednesdays, come on up to MassCar for our meeting. We'd love to have you. www.masscar.com Charlie Larkin
