cruz Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I have been looking around Google but have not found a clear picture on this, my question is what color is the engine on this car? Ford blue? Black? What about the intake manifold? Also, would the transmission be the same color as the engine?
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 According to my engine paint page, all Ford engines were black. The 390 that was in the Tbird was black with silver valve covers and air cleaner.
Guest Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Not a dumb question at all. Like mentioned, Ford engines untill about 65 or so were black. The transmission, manual one that is, not sure on the auto, would have been aluminum.
jas1957 Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Not all of the transmissions from back then were aluminum. Many of the early automatics had cast iron cases, manuals also. Talk about bears to get in & out, those things weighed a ton !!
Mike Kucaba Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 And to add to that,I don't think a t-bird in 1962 would have anything but an automatic.
ChrisPflug Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 '62 T Bird 390 should use an FMX style auto trans- iron center section with aluminum bellhousing and tailshaft housing and I believe natural finsh on all the parts
