LDO Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Will Easy-Off work? This stuff is hideous. I wonder what the builder was thinking. It's an AMT '61-'67 Lincoln Continental convertible. The woodgrain looks like the sides of old station wagons. That poor Connie never hurt anybody.
iBorg Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I'd try soaking it in alcohol. It will take the paint and chrome off and it may loosen the adhesive. Good luck. Mike
LDO Posted June 1, 2011 Author Posted June 1, 2011 I didn't have any alcohol and didn't want to go to the store. I tried Easy-Off. The woodgrain turned green instantly. After a couple of hours, I peeled it right off.
Pete J. Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 stickers use goo gone or WD 40 DON'T, I REPEAT DON'T use WD40 on any model ever!! I guarantee that you will never get a good paint job back on that model. In fact I have ban the use of it any where in my shop period. The stuff causes fisheyes so bad and I have had unimaginable problems getting rid of them once they appear.

With your paint knowledge I will bow to your advice.....I have done it a number of times on stickers from snap kits baked on. I do wash the bodies with dawn and soft scrub...never a fish BUT that solvent base is tough and if not removed.......a mess B)
mcandela Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Next time You are at Sam's or Costco get some of their degreaser they sell in a black plastic gallon. Cost like $3.00 and this stuff is really strong, I mean You need gloves to handle it or else it will peel ths skin off your hands. It's good for de-chroming also.
