Guest Sickfish Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Well guys it was bound to happen... Murphys Law! Everything was going pretty good until I got to polishing out the body... I guess I was a little too enthusiastic & rubbed a little too much in some area's Anyway I tried fixing the area's concerned but wasn't happy with the touch-ups So I decided to strip it & re-paint it. Had it nice & ready for colour, while sitting in the paint booth, under lights... Stepped out for a few mins to make a coffee... Came back & BAM! The roof had a nice sized divet & the A-pillar warped s##t!!! I was absolutely mortified! No spare body & LHS doesn't have any kits! But I sold a kit to a mate a few months back, when I bought a couple of EBay... A phone call later & I'll be buying it back off him tomorrow! I'm going away for a few days but as soon as I'm back I'll be hitting the bench & re-starting on the body Sorry for the delay guys but I'll be back on it soon Cheers Cliffo
pharr7226 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Sorry to hear about the damage. It's a shame. But, I know you can recreate the magic.
Guest Sickfish Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Hi guys... Well I'm back onto the build, scored a new kit from a mate Since I'm pretty much having to restart it I thought, on advice from Peter & Cesar, I'd go ahead & buy the PE detail set, since it's been highly recommended Order's going in this week Along with having to restart it I've had a thought about using the same colour, Limetime Pearl by HOK or whether I should change that & go for the colour I had originally planned, Furious Fuschia? I've mixed up a bottle, containing HOK Hot Pink with added pearl powder. To my naked eye it's a really good match What do you guys think, stick with Limetime or go with Furious Fuschia?? As far as the PE detail set goe's, I've removed the molded-in grill as that's all I think need's to be done? Peter/Cesar, is there any more body/front/rear fascia modifications needed for the PE set, before I start laying down colour?? I'll hopefully have some pics up later tonight Cheers, Cliffo
Guest Sickfish Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Yes don I sure have & I gotta say it's one ugly duckling!! Cheers Cliffo
jsimmons Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Have you Mopar guys seen one of these yet? I like it.
Mr. Moparman Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I saw that in a Mopar mag one day in Wal-Mart. I was so intreived I bought the mag. Basically the car is a '08 Challenger with a nose clip and wing. You have to buy a bolt on kit for the car. You take and remove the front bumper and grille and replace it with the reinforced peice, then bolt on the nose. You drill 6 holes in the deck lid and bolt on the wing.
Mooneyzs Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I vote to keep it the HOK Limetime Pearl. That think looked sharp in the green.
Guest Sickfish Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Votes counted... U win! Lol! Already got it in green Cheers Cliffo
Mooneyzs Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 ....Sweet. Looking forward to seeing this come to life again. Gonna be nice with that photo-etch kit too.
Cesar Bossolani Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Votes counted... U win! Lol! Already got it in green Cheers Cliffo LOL!!! Very fun!!! Got it in green!!! Cheers! Cesar
Guest Sickfish Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Hey guys! Here's the latest... Got the body/front/rear sections all painted. I gotta say it's come out better 2nd time around It's got 3-4 decently thinned colour coats all up. I sprayed the blacked out areas first this time... Much easier masking off the blacked out sections than masking off the coloured sections. I figured it wouldn't matter since I was using the black as a base coat for the Limetime green, in order to tone down the brightness of the green. Way easier! Anyway it's all been wet-sanded & I'll put the decals on & clear-coat soon & then I'll be waiting for the PE stuff to arrive I've got a few days off after tomorrow so hopefully I'll start work on the chassis/interior/engine Cheers & thanks guys, Cliffo
Mooneyzs Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Looking good. glad to see you got her back up and running again
Cesar Bossolani Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Cliffo good job like always!! Bro, let me know what did you make to fit rear wheels on tube? Or what you'll do to make it? Cheers brother!!! Cesar
Guest Sickfish Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Cliffo good job like always!! Bro, let me know what did you make to fit rear wheels on tube? Or what you'll do to make it? Cheers brother!!! Cesar Thanks bro! Do you mean how I made wheels or how I will attach to diff'? In this pic is Challenger stock rim, with middle shaved down & stripped of chrome. The chrome ring is off Aoshima After-market 20in. The other part is the custom extra set of rims that come with the kit. It's been stripped, gutted & sized down, to attach to Challenger rim to make it wider. This is the version I did now. The rims in the pic are same but made differently. With them I did same, strip, shave & make less wide to fit inside Aoshima rim & glue inside. Chrome outer ring goe's on as normal. I prefer this version. I will post pics of both together so you can see difference ok? Cheers bro
Cesar Bossolani Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Sorry Cliffo... I used wrong words, LOL!! I mean the Challenger wheel tube aren't big and shock mount won't allow you fit Aoshima 20" tires without mods. Did you thinking about it? Let me know. Cheers! Cesar
Guest Sickfish Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Sorry Cliffo... I used wrong words, LOL!! I mean the Challenger wheel tube aren't big and shock mount won't allow you fit Aoshima 20" tires without mods. Bro is easy to fix to fit Aoshima 20s.... I grind ( with Dremel tool ) off area I marked with black marker It is enough room now for rims to fit I did this before on first Chally build the rims were much bigger ( 24s ) I fit these rims with same alteration to rear shock mount Cheers Cliffo Did you thinking about it? Let me know. Cheers! Cesar
Guest Sickfish Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) Look what came in the mail today... Sweetest looking PE set I've ever seen! I haven't really worked/used PE much before, is there any particular, or best glue, to use? I have regular plastic glue, super glue, plastic cement, clear glue & 2 part clear apoxy. Here's what else came in the mail today Awesome kit! Brilliant wheels! Probably 1 of the BEST kits I've seen/had of Aoshimas! Cheers Cliffo Edited June 29, 2011 by Sickfish
PeterC(MrMondeo) Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Hi, awesome Merc that , as for the PE set i use superglue, with a very very small applicator, take your time and you will get good results With the PE badges i would say to leave them on the sprue and paint them , let them dry then use a fine sander and keep them as flat as possible and rub away in one direction it will take the paint off on the raised areas and leave the paint in the lower parts, it realy sets them off
Guest Sickfish Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Thanks Pete! I'll be very careful.. the parts look pretty delicate Cheers Cliffo
PeterC(MrMondeo) Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 NP Cliffo, look forward to seeing pics, and also a WIP on that Merc, if it floats my boat i may get one lol
Guest Sickfish Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 No worries Pete Trust me... The Merc kit is worth the $$! I've only had a quick once over ( kit arrived just before I had to hightail it to work ) & from what I saw... Awesome! Even has workin suspension! The wheels are MASSIVE! I could use them on several "other" projects Cheers mate, Cliffo
