curb Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I would like to see a Standard set of Rules applied to contests. obviously this would require a considerable amount of work and cooperation among model clubs holding Contests but once done, anyone entering a contest would know the rules. Obviously clubs would want different classes that would pertain to their club but I'm sure other clubs would use that class also. Is there a form that a club uses in judging? The Shelf Class....What is a shelf model? - one that has no detail or one that is partly detailed or one that is fully detailed? - Should the club that holds the Contest have a member that sponsors a class - enter in that class? And get First Place? Yes we need a Standard set of Rules so everyone is on the same playing field.
Harry P. Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 It doesn't matter that rules vary from one contest to another... everyone entered in any one particular contest IS on the same playing field... the rules of that particular contest. Good luck ever getting one set of rules in place that every single contest will abide by. You have a better chance of being abducted by aliens...

ra7c7er Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 A standard set of rules would be great but it will never happen. No two clubs/events are the same so you won't ever find them all using the same rules. Not even all the I.P.M.S clubs agree on the rules so even when you do have a "standard" set of rules they are changed to meet the particular clubs needs/wishes/etc.

highway Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 You have a better chance of being abducted by aliens... So I must be pretty lucky!! I just wish they would have given me some winning lottery numbers!!
1320wayne Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Think about what you are asking for? A standard set of rules removes all individuality of the process. It takes away free thinking and different perspectives. Someone mentioned IPMS. They claim to have a standard set of rules for any shows that wish to follow the IPMS standards. The problems there are simple. Who's to say that the person, or persons, that developed those standards were correct, or reasonable. You will always have differing opinions come in to play to discount any consistency with a standard set of rules. Half the fun of competing/attending different shows being run in different ways, is that you never know what to expect. In my opinion, the only set standard that should be in place for all shows is that all that attend should have fun and enjoy what they are doing.
