Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Johan's ancient kit in some pretty vivid colours. This paint scheme was suggested by a friend who knows much more about the classic cars than I'll ever know. I was hoping to have this finished by Saturday the 14th so that I can bring it with me to MassCar but due to a couple of complications, I'm not going to make it. The new finish date is April 21 for my local show.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 The wheels are on but might come off to be further detailed. I've been working on the interior including trying my hand at some wood graining.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 Anyway, the engine is in for keeps and the fenders are on. At a friend's suggestion, I had Jackson and the boys pull the wheels and BMF the outer parts of the rims. It looks 100% better but it was fiddly work. If you look through the cooling vents, you can just make out the massive V16. I am particularly proud of how the stone guard looks after a wash of Tamiya Smoke. Following another of a friend's suggestions, I wood grained the gauge cluster.
Modelmartin Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Glad to see more classic cars being built. Nice job.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 Glad to see more classic cars being built. Nice job. Thanks Andy. This is my second classic (the first being a Packard boattail) and it won't be my last.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 The interior is in and the body has been glued on to the fenders. All it needs is the steering wheel and the wheel/tire combos to be drive-able.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 It's getting close so long as you don't look at the details. Norbie should be happy when he sees the wheels done to his specifications. First time I've ever tried painting something this small. I need a smaller brush.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 17, 2007 Author Posted April 17, 2007 Everything that the kit supplied for under the hood has been installed. Fun it wasn't painting the V16 wheel centers. Black with a red circle and then a gold V16 on top of that.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 When you last saw the Cadillac, there was excess BMF all over the place. Not any more. The boys "forgot" the side mount spares and the hood. Had to call 'em back in to work so I could get this photo. This is going to beautiful if I dare say so myself.
Modelmartin Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I can see it slowly coming together. 8) At first the colors were jarring but now that more details are being put in place it's coming together. It's funny how some projects don't look right until they are done and then they are awesome.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 The back end is finished. Time to put an end to it for now.
pettiner Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Super job, Great looking classic. I will have to dig out that bugatti.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Caught Jackson looking/drooling at it late last night. At this point, there's not much left except for the details. The plan is to have it finished by Noon tomorrow.
Luis Ayala Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Looks GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the kind of build that make you stop to stare... Congratulatios on an exelent build...
Modelmartin Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 I gotta build me one of those! I already have all the V-16 kits. Did you know that there are 6 different V-16 Cads in 1/25-24? Jo-hans 3 1931 cars,Monogram has a 32, and Italeri makes 2 different 33s. How did that happen. Usually the model companies copy each other. Great job on your build. I have been enjoying it.

Who cares why it happened! Not me as I've got all 6! Paint schemes are set for the Italeri cars - Both are to be black. The other three are up in the air at this point. You want colourful? Wait till you see my Italeri RR. Thanks for the kind words one and all.
LDO Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 You want colourful? Wait till you see my Italeri RR. Thanks for the kind words one and all. The Maharajah car? Add my kind words too. It looks great. Yellow and black is a great combo for these old luxury cars.

LDO Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 That would be the one Lee and Thank You. Is it going to be saffron orange and natural aluminum?
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 21, 2007 Author Posted April 21, 2007 Is it going to be saffron orange and natural aluminum? But of course. It's already there. I'm trying to decide if I should try tackling the dual set of windows for the passenger compartment.
Mr. Can Am Garage Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 Managed to get it done about 10 this morning. Show/contest registration ended at Noon so we made it in time. Unfortunately, it didn't place in it's category but my box stock Packard came home with a First Place in it's category. Go figure. More shots of the completed Cadillac for tomorrow.
Modelmartin Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Fabulous model! Judging can be weird alright. I have experienced the higher placing of inferior model when they were both mine!! Oh Well!! We all like it.
