JustBill Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 plowboy, thanks for your input. This has been a experimental build for me. I've tried a bunch of techniques that are new to me with this build just to see if I can do it and how it will look. I gotta tell you though, I took and did the tailgate and it looks pretty convincing.
Guest Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 That does look very convincing Bill! Did you just sprinkle the baking soda on very lightly?
JustBill Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) Yea pretty much. Pinched it out of the box and sprinkled it on till I had about a 1/8inch or so covering. Didn't pack it or anything. Just let it sit a good while and when dry knocked the loose stuff off and then went over it with a dry brush to get the loose stuff out of the details. Then brush painted it testers flat black. Here's I pick of how the bed is sitting right now while I'm waiting for it to dry... I'm doing the bed in sections so the glue doesn't start setting before I have a chance to cover it all evenly with glue and sprinkle the baking soda. Looks like snow. It would be some good stuff to use for snow if you figured out a way to work with it in that aspect. Edited January 13, 2012 by JustBill
JustBill Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 What kind of glue did you use. I use white glue like we use to use in grade school. I just put some glue in the area I'm working on, work it around with a paint brush, then dip my brush in water and work it in the glue. You want the glue to be thin so you don't loose details in the model. Thicker than milk but thinner than paint. As you thin it out you won't really see the glue anymore it will be like a tacky glaze. Just have fun and experiment with it. Its really easy and fun and adds a nice touch!
