ROY AVERY Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I have only foiled a few cars. None of these were ever done with a clear top coat. Does the foil work better on top of the clear or with the clear top coats after foiling?
Guest Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Unless you're absolutely sure that your clearcoat won't yellow over time,put your foil over your clearcoat. There really is no need to clear over foil anyway IMO. I made the mistake of clearing over foil on a couple of models with Testors clear. Never ever again will I make that mistake!

MrObsessive Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I agree with Cruz's sentiments-----------there's absolutely no need to clear over BMF if the sheet is in good shape, and you've applied it correctly. Here's a couple pics of a '59 Buick Invicta which was built over 4 years ago. The BMF was NOT cleared, and the foil is still sticking very well after all this time. I have some builds older than this, and the BMF has not peeled due to lack of clearcoat.
CAL Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I do clear over BMF, so I guess I am the oddball. I do it for two reasons. 1. and the main reason so the foil doesn't come off, get knocked off, or fall off. 2. I think it looks better cleared, and the edge where the foil has been cut looked a little more "finished".
