AMT4EVR Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Using the Dodge L-700 or Ford C-600, I would like to make these more heavy duty by adding a second set of rear duals, how do I go about doing this, and would I need to add a bigger engine to the trucks for more power. Your comments please. THANKS
Aaronw Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I don't think Dodge offered that option. Ford had the CT-800/900, the engine in the C-600 kit is the superduty 401-534 cid so plenty large for a heavier truck. As far as how you could get one of the Ford Louisville kits with a tandem axle (snowplow has one) which would give you the appropriate set of springs / axles.
mr cheap Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) in real life you can do any thing you want on your truck .. as long as its safe for the road ....but if you want it like factory new then youve got to do some research .... you can side (dummie) a air ride under it real quick ...or you can side a tandum drive...both drives pull...extend the frame if ness Edited July 24, 2011 by mr cheap

Plus, with that snowplow kit, you get a Cat 3208 diesel. Just the right size engine for that truck. Or you could go one better and fit a Detroit Diesel 8V-71 from the Chevrolet Titan kit. I don't remember where I saw this but in this blog or another one, I saw a modified model of the C600 dressed with a refuse body with this engine. I just looked like the original 1:1 truck had come out of the shop this way.
Swifster Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) The Dodge was available as a L-600 and L-700. The tractors as far as I've seen are single axle. To make the truck more 'heavy duty', Dodge offered a Cummins V8-185 in '69 & '70.. The also offered a deluxe cab with 5 windows instead of 3. The L-600 was avilable with...every engine known to man and in Chrysler's catalog including the mighty 225 slant 6 (I'd like to see that pull a 40' reefer trailer). Edited July 24, 2011 by Swifster
The Modeling Hermit Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I can't fand anything that shows the Dodge as a tandem, and I don't think it was made that way. If you wanted to build one, you could stretch the frame behind the rear axle, and add a non-powered tag axle. By insuring that it has all the appearances of being added at a later date, you'll add character to the truck. I can't picture anybody ever doing anything like this in real life, but anything is possible. If you do build it, I want to see pictures as I'm sure that would be one cool looking truck.

Guest Markus355 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 umm can someone put that into english please?
Guest Johnny Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 (edited) Yes they did have them (the Dodges) but all but one I saw had one drive and a tag. They were used for garbage trucks (they had them here locally when I was a kid) and I did maintenance on two for a small time garbage hauler in So, IL. in the late 80's. There were two semi tractors I have seen with two drives. one a single drive with a tag (in a salvage yard) and the other was pulling a short flatbed hauling a single steel coil out of a mill in Gary Indiana on a dedicated route! His was a dual drive! Saw that one often running US41 in Indiana over about 5 years then it disappeared. Edited July 27, 2011 by Johnny
